Oscar Isaac has recently sparked massive speculation among Marvel fans after the Moon Knight actor teases a plan for a Marvel Midnight Sons movie. During a recent appearance, the star hinted that discussions regarding a supernatural team-up have taken place within the MCU. While fans are still waiting for news on a second season of his solo series, the prospect of a larger ensemble is tantalizing.
The Supernatural Lineup
The Midnight Sons comic book team is composed of some of Marvel's most iconic supernatural characters. A potential film could bring together several heroes who have already made appearances in the MCU or related Marvel projects, including:
- Moon Knight (Oscar Isaac)
- Blade (Mahershala Ali)
- Werewolf by Night
- Ghost Rider
- Elsa Bloodstone
Oscar Isaac on the Midnight Sons Movie
Speaking on the Happy, Sad, Confused podcast, Isaac confirmed that there has been "interesting talk" regarding a Midnight Sons movie. However, he noted that such a project does not appear to be in active development at this moment.
Isaac emphasized the thematic depth such a story could offer: "Yeah there was an interesting talk about Midnight Sons," Isaac revealed. "Tonally it's really important because we're playing with real stuff with that one. It's expressing something very real, challenging and difficult. I feel like if you're gonna go, you gotta take it seriously as well. Even though it's a crazy comic book, but that's what it's trying to do, it's doing both of those things."
Marvel's Shifting Production Priorities
The road to a Midnight Sons movie seems complicated by Marvel Studios' current production schedule. The studio is currently focusing its massive resources on the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday, Secret Wars, and a potential X-Men reboot.
This shift comes after several stalled attempts to launch the Blade film starring Mahershala Ali. While various scripts and even historical costumes were previously in development, production for the character's solo outing currently appears to be on pause.
Potential Fan Casting
Despite the uncertainty, Isaac couldn't help but get playful about future casting possibilities. He specifically addressed the long-standing rumors regarding Ryan Gosling as Ghost Rider.
"It'll be me on the back of the bike, holding onto him," Isaac joked about Disney's interest in Gosling as Ghost Rider. "Fire, cape... that's the poster."
