Establishing a Metal Farm is one of the most effective ways to secure rare resources in Subnautica 2. As you explore deeper into the ocean, you will quickly realize that specific materials, such as Troilite, are incredibly scarce. This scarcity becomes a major bottleneck during the late-game stage when attempting to repair the Alien Power Plant, making a dedicated duplication setup essential for survival.

To successfully utilize this technology, you must have reached the Alien Ruins area via the Tadpole Pens and equipped your vehicle with the mandatory Tadpole Depth module.

Locating the Metal Farm Blueprint

You cannot craft this device immediately; you must first scan three existing units to unlock the blueprint. Fortunately, these structures are clustered together in a specific deep-sea region that requires careful navigation.

To find the scanning locations, follow these steps:

  • Navigate east from the Alien Ruins Research Base.
  • Descend the cliffside until you locate a purple tube, then follow it toward the Angel Comb.
  • Head northeast from the Angel Comb, following another purple tube down into a ravine.
  • Look for an area characterized by glowing green pools and alien column-like devices.

This location is approximately 450 meters deep—the absolute limit of a Tadpole equipped with a depth module. Be cautious, as this zone is patrolled by a leviathan and various other predators. We recommend bringing a Repair Tool for your vehicle and plenty of healing supplies. While scanning the Metal Farms, also collect some Troilite and an Axum Bacterial Culture from the pools, as you will need them for construction.

How to Build a Metal Farm in Subnautica 2

Once you have unlocked the blueprint, you can begin constructing your own resource duplication station. However, be aware that these machines require significant energy to operate. Since the blueprint does not list specific power requirements, it is best to build your Metal Farm near an existing power grid to avoid the need for extra transmitters.

To craft a single unit, you will need the following materials:

  • 1x Mangalloy Ingot
  • 1x Axum Bacterial Culture

To create the Mangalloy Ingot, you must combine one Troilite, one Atacamite, and one Titanium Ingot.

Operating Your Metal Farm Efficiently

Using the device is a simple process of patience and resource management:

  1. Interact with the front of the device to open storage.
  2. Insert the metal you wish to duplicate (Troilite is the most recommended choice).
  3. Wait for the timer on the front of the machine to reach zero.
  4. Once the timer expires, an ore node will appear on top of the device.
  5. Use your Sonic Resonator to smash the node and collect your loot.

Because the amount of ore yielded per node is randomized—ranging from one to three units—it is highly efficient to build multiple stations. If you have the power infrastructure to support them, a network of Metal Farms will ensure you never run low on critical materials again.
