Replaced Dev Issues Warning: Critical Series S Bug Explained
The long-awaited cyberpunk cinematic platformer Replaced is finally out today on PC and Xbox, but the launch experience comes with an unfortunate game-breaking bug at launch on Series S. This critical issue can destroy saves during Chapter 5 of the campaign, prompting a Replaced Dev Issues Warning for console players. Fortunately, developer Sad Cat Studios has promised that a patch will be released this week to fix the problem.
The Series S Memory Hang Problem
While those playing on Steam or Xbox Series X are safe from this save-destroying issue, it is specifically found on the Series S console. The bug manifests during the transition between Chapter 4 and Chapter 5 if the game has been played in a single session up to that point. Developer Sad Cat Studios explained to IGN that "on Series S, the game may suffer a memory-related hang" under these specific conditions.
To mitigate this risk before the update arrives, players are advised to take proactive steps with their save data:
- Quit and restart the game during Chapter 4 to clear out the console’s RAM.
- Avoid playing the entire campaign in one continuous session on Series S.
- Save progress frequently if you must push through the critical chapter transition.
Upcoming Patch Details and Incomplete Cinematics
If you do not wish to risk losing all your hard-earned progress, the developer plans to have a patch aimed at fixing the issue through certification on Wednesday, April 15. Once certified, this fix will go live shortly thereafter. However, it does not appear to be the only thing worth waiting for in this upcoming update.
The action platformer’s endgame cinematics are also listed as being incomplete on Xbox Series S, despite being fully finished on other platforms. This suggests that the April 15 patch may address both the critical save bug and the visual storytelling gaps specific to the lower-spec console.
Final Thoughts on Replaced
I, for one, can’t wait to play through the whole of Replaced, having checked out the first three hours of the game earlier this year and coming away highly impressed. You might think you know what this game is, but I promise you don't. The cyberpunk aesthetic and platforming mechanics have set a high bar for the genre, even with these initial teething issues.
Will you be playing Replaced despite the launch hurdles? If you were planning on checking it out on Series S, will you now be waiting a couple of days for the patch to resolve these concerns? Let us know in the comments!
