New leaks have sent waves through the horror community as Resident Evil Requiem fans claim to have unearthed a significant cache of cut content. Recent images suggest that the game's development underwent massive shifts, leaving behind abandoned mechanics like a dedicated weapon merchant, side missions, and much more.
The developer's history of major changes is well-documented; the game's director previously confirmed that an entire early chapter was removed as the narrative evolved. These latest findings, originally surfaced by Japanese streamer umesooooo and verified by prominent leaker Dusk Golem, provide a deeper look into what could have been.
The Return of the Merchant?
One of the most striking discoveries involves a weapon upgrade screen featuring an early iteration of the Requiem revolver. Within these images, fans spotted a shadowy figure lurking in the background that appears to be a reimagined version of the iconic Resident Evil 4 merchant.
In the retail version of Resident Evil Requiem, players interact with a digital touchscreen menu to manage upgrades and purchases. The leaked footage suggests a much more atmospheric, character-driven approach to gear management was once on the table.
Lost Side Missions and Gameplay Mechanics
The leaks also point toward a much more robust objective system. Unlike the final game, where players primarily earn kills for progression, these early builds featured a list of side missions reminiscent of the Resident Evil 4 Remake.
Some of the scrapped mission ideas include:
- Warehouse Inspections: Investigating locations like those found in Raccoon City.
- Resource Retrieval: Tasks involving obtaining fuses or opening BSAA containers.
- Environmental Investigations: Checking out gas stations for clues.
- Vehicle Maintenance: A tutorial on repairing a broken motorcycle.
Furthermore, the leaks suggest Leon Kennedy may have originally been able to use a blood collection kit. While Grace currently handles blood collection in the final release, early builds showed Leon using a syringe-like device that could potentially grant bonuses—or lead to dangerous overdoses and negative side effects.
Map Changes and Missing Items
Fans are also analyzing an early version of the in-game map. In this build, both Leon and Grace were visible simultaneously, suggesting a period in development where the two protagonists explored the world together more frequently before being separated for most of the campaign.
Beyond character movement, several classic items appear to have been lost in transition:
- Red Herbs: A staple of the franchise missing from the final version.
- Special Purple Bullets: These may have been the precursor to the current Hemolytic Injector.
- Detective Mechanics: Evidence of a system for detailed body examination.
As Capcom prepares to launch a new game mode later this month, eyes are turning toward the upcoming story expansion. While nothing is confirmed, players are hopeful that some of these fascinating cut Resident Evil Requiem mechanics might find a second life in future DLC.
