New Resident Evil Movie Poster Hints At Umbrella’s Involvement
Zach Cregger’s upcoming Resident Evil film is charting its own path, deliberately avoiding the narratives and characters of the beloved video game series—a bold choice that writer and director knows may ruffle feathers among the fanbase. However, the latest promotional material for the horror flick offers a tantalizing clue: Umbrella Corp is heavily involved in the plot.
This revelation aligns perfectly with the story’s trajectory, as protagonist Bryan is on a collision course with Raccoon City, the ground zero for the infamous zombie outbreak orchestrated by the pharmaceutical giant.
Visual Clues in the New Poster Art
The official Resident Evil social media channels recently unveiled two striking new posters, both packed with subtle references to the franchise’s lore.
The first image captures a tense nighttime scene: a car traveling down a forested road encounters what appears to be an infected woman. The composition is masterful, using the car’s bright headlights and glowing red taillights to create a subtle, eerie silhouette of the Umbrella logo. It’s a visual nod that rewards attentive viewers without giving away too much.
The second poster shifts the focus to Bryan (played by Austin Abrams). We see him from behind, walking into a snowy, desolate landscape identified as Raccoon City. This imagery echoes the film’s debut trailer, which showcased infected creatures falling from buildings and splattering onto the ground as Bryan fled for his life.
Connecting the Dots to Game Lore
While Cregger is steering clear of direct adaptations from the games, the film is drawing significant monster inspiration from Resident Evil 6 and Resident Evil 4. Furthermore, the filmmaker has hinted that the movie’s events unfold during the timeline of Resident Evil 2.
This temporal setting provides strong credence that Umbrella Corporation will play a central role in the film’s conflict. Given their responsibility for the T-virus outbreak that turned Raccoon City into a graveyard, their presence is almost inevitable.
Current Franchise Status
While fans await the theatrical release, the gaming side of the franchise remains active. Resident Evil Requiem launched earlier this year as the ninth mainline entry in the series. To keep the community engaged, the game recently received a new roguelite mode titled Leon Must Die Forever.
Resident Evil is scheduled to premiere in theaters on September 18.
