With the Season 4 finale now behind us, all eyes are on the future of Invincible. While Season 5 has been confirmed, the long-term fate of the series remains tied to Amazon Prime Video's renewal decisions. Co-creator Robert Kirkman has expressed a desire to see the story through to its natural conclusion, but the roadmap is not yet set in stone.
The Plan for Seven to Nine Seasons of Invincible
Kirkman’s vision for the show's longevity is based on the massive scale of the original source material. He has noted that reaching the end of the comic book arc would require a significant number of seasons.
“Roughly seven to eight to nine seasons I think would be necessary to do the complete arc from the comics of Invincible,” Kirkman stated last July. While he expressed great excitement regarding the support from Amazon Prime, he admitted that reaching that milestone depends on the show being renewed beyond Season 5.
Upcoming Plot Threads and Character Returns
As we look toward Season 5, several major story arcs are beginning to take shape. Kirkman recently spoke with TheWrap, addressing fan concerns regarding unfinished plotlines, specifically the fate of The Order.
He reassured viewers that the series is not designed to leave significant threads dangling. “We’re not gonna start stories in this show with the plan of not continuing them and concluding them within the confines of this show,” Kirkman explained. “We’ll be touching on The Order plenty in future seasons, so there should be no fear.”
Fans can look forward to several key elements in upcoming installments:
- The return of Matthew Rhys as Dinosaurus.
- More appearances from Lee Pace as the Grand Regent Thragg.
- Continued deep dives into the complex comic book lore.
When Can We Expect Season 5?
While we know more story is coming, the wait may be a long one. If we follow the release pattern established by recent seasons, Invincible Season 5 will likely arrive on Prime Video in early 2027.
