Liquid Swords has officially announced that Samson is coming to consoles this fall. The 1990s-set, gritty open-world action-adventure/brawler—directed by Just Cause creator Christofer Sundberg—is preparing for a wider release following a rocky launch on PC earlier this month.
While specific hardware remains unconfirmed, the upcoming release is expected to target current-generation systems. Whether this includes Nintendo's next-generation hardware remains a point of speculation, as many Unreal Engine 5 titles have yet to appear on Nintendo's newest platform.
Fixing Samson: The Roadmap to Console Launch
The PC launch for Samson was marred by significant bugs and repetitive gameplay loops. Despite these issues, the game offers unique mechanics that even Grand Theft Auto lacks, occasionally capturing a specific cinematic atmosphere reminiscent of the 2011 film Drive. To address early criticisms, developer Liquid Swords has detailed an extensive patch and content schedule to stabilize the experience before its autumn arrival.
The studio has committed to a rigorous update cycle:
- Weekly Patches: Scheduled through early May to address stability.
- Updates 3–6: Will focus on combat refinements, performance optimization, new car variants, and community-driven fixes.
- Content Update 1 (Mid-May): A dedicated combat expansion designed to add depth to the grounded, physical fighting system.
- Content Update 2 (Mid-June): A vehicle-focused expansion aimed at enhancing the driving experience.
Developer Commitment to Quality
Liquid Swords is leaning heavily into community feedback to shape the future of Samson. The studio has stated they are actively monitoring Discord and official forums to ensure player priorities are reflected in the development pipeline.
"The team is dedicated to ensuring Samson will grow significantly across quality, gameplay, and content," the developers told IGN. By prioritizing these technical and mechanical overhauls, Liquid Swords hopes to deliver a polished version of their ambitious open-world vision when Samson finally hits consoles later this year.
