Star Wars: Galactic Racer Story Trailer Introduces Familiar and Odd New Characters

The first story trailer for Star Wars: Galactic Racer made its debut at Summer Game Fest, offering a sneak peek at characters such as Sebulba, the four-armed alien that might seem vaguely familiar, a human with a mustache likely from a cartoon or comic, and a host of other Glup Shittos. As a somewhat lapsed Star Wars fan, I found myself unsure of most of the characters on screen. The trailer left me with one main reaction: Oh, there's a story? I was hoping it would be all about the racing.

A Love for Podracing, Not So Much for the Story

Let me be clear—I’m excited for Star Wars: Galactic Racer. I loved Star Wars Episode I: Racer, especially when it was on the N64. Whenever I fast-forward through Episode I, I always watch the podracing segment, along with the Duel of the Fates battle, which are the only reasons I can justify watching the movie at all.

So yes, I’m pumped to see the racing gameplay. But I’m less excited about the story elements, which involve a bunch of aliens talking about whatever the plot is. However, I’m willing to sit through the dialogue—or hit the “Skip” button—to get back behind the controls of a racer.

The release date for Star Wars: Galactic Racer was leaked a few months ago, but it’s now official: the game launches on October 6. I’ll see you all at the starting line, Glup Shittos and otherwise.

  • The trailer showcases a mix of recognizable and bizarre characters.
  • The story elements are minimal, with a clear focus on racing.
  • The game's release date has been confirmed for October 6.
