This Subnautica 2 mod lets you kill all the fish you want

The recent discourse surrounding Subnautica 2 has centered on one polarizing question: to kill or not to kill? Many players have expressed frustration over the lack of combat, noting that the original title allowed players to use a survival knife against hostile creatures and even massive leviathans.

While developers have maintained that the sequel is "not a killing game" and focuses more on survival than direct combat, a new solution has emerged for those who want a bit more teeth in their underwater adventure.

The Killable Creatures Mod Changes Everything

If you find yourself wanting to fight back against oceanic pests, the Killable Creatures mod by jibotron is your answer. Rather than introducing entirely new weaponry, this mod weaponizes the tools already present in your inventory to allow for combat.

Modder jibotron explained the motivation behind the project: "Getting into Subnautica 2 for the first time and then realizing they took away the ability to kill made me angry. Why take away a feature so simple especially when its a sandbox survival game?" After hearing that developers felt combat didn't suit their specific vision, jibotron decided to bridge the gap using their experience in game modding.

How Combat Works with This Subnautica 2 Mod

Once the Killable Creatures mod is installed, your existing utility tools become much more lethal:

  • Survival Multitool (Hammer): Deals 20 damage per swing.
  • Sonic Resonator: Deals 50 damage per blast.

By dealing enough damage, you can kill almost any creature in the game. Once defeated, they will float upside down, much like a casualty in an aquarium.

Testing the Limits of Combat

In practice, the mod allows for a surprising range of targets. You can take out irritating Hammerheads that headbutt your parked tadpole, or even resonate a Coral Crab to death—though killing the latter might feel a bit sacrilegious given how peaceful they are.

While the mod makes it possible to hunt smaller fish for food, there is a notable trade-off regarding resources:

  • Small Fish: You can kill them, but their floating corpses are not harvestable for resources.
  • Large Fish: These can be killed, but they cannot be harvested for meat or materials.

While the mod offers a satisfying way to get revenge on startling Nibbler Mangos, it does turn hunting into a bit of a chore due to how quickly creatures swim away after being hit.

To use this Subnautica 2 mod, you can find the Killable Creatures mod on Nexus Mods. Keep in mind that, like most mods for the title, you will need to install the UE4SS mod first to ensure everything runs smoothly.
