The massive launch of Subnautica 2 has officially shaken up the Steam ecosystem. For months, the highly anticipated sequel sat firmly at the top of the most-wishlisted games list—a position it likely held since the release of Hollow Knight: Silksong in September 2025. However, with Subnautica 2 finally entering early access last week, the "king of the hill" has shifted.

But the new occupant of that throne is a mathematical anomaly that shouldn't even be on the list.

The Deadlock Paradox

As of last week, the most-wishlisted game on Steam is Deadlock. This presents a bizarre situation: Deadlock is a game that has effectively been out for almost two years. While Valve tends to treat its third-person MOBA hero shooter hybrid as if it hasn't officially launched, the data tells a very different story.

The reality of Deadlock's current status includes:

  • Consistent Updates: The game receives regular patches and new character additions.
  • Massive Player Base: It has reached a peak concurrent player count of 171,490.
  • High Engagement: On average, over 50,000 people are playing the title at any given time.

Technically, once a game is released, it should drop off the most-wishlisted rankings. Deadlock is currently operating as "Schrödinger's game"—it exists in a state where it is simultaneously one of the most-played titles on the platform and yet remains "unreleased" in the eyes of the public eye.

The Real Most Wishlisted Game

If we ignore Valve’s refusal to officially acknowledge Deadlock's presence, we can finally identify the true successor to Subnautica 2 on the Steam charts.

The actual most-wishlisted game on Steam is Light No Fire.

Congratulations are due to Hello Games for this achievement. It is perhaps the perfect candidate for the top spot: it looks visually stunning, maintains a massive following of eager fans, and—most importantly—it actually hasn't been released yet. While Deadlock continues to defy logic by sitting on a wishlist despite its massive player count, Light No Fire stands as the genuine heavyweight of upcoming PC titles.
