The Boys Creator Insists He Did Not Cancel Spinoff Gen V as Angry Fans Flood His Social Media With Insults

Eric Kripke, the creator of The Boys, has officially addressed the rumors surrounding the decision to cancel Gen V. Following a wave of backlash from fans that spilled over onto his social media, Kripke clarified that he was not responsible for the show's end.

Gen V made its debut on Prime Video in September 2023, focusing on students at Godolkin University striving to join superhero teams. Recently, Amazon confirmed that the spinoff would not return for a third season, leaving many supporters devastated.

Kripke Denies Role in Gen V Cancellation

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Kripimate insisted he fought to save the series, but the final choice was out of his hands. "I did not cancel the show,” he stated. “One, I don't have the power to do that. Two, I was fighting to keep the show, almost more than anybody else on Earth. So I'm as bummed as everybody else out there."

Kripke explained that the decision to cancel Gen V was driven by corporate metrics rather than creative preference. He noted that these are business decisions made by Amazon involving viewer numbers versus production costs. "It's based on amount of viewers versus how expensive the show is to make... and, unfortunately, they decided that it didn't [make sense]," he added.

The Future of Godolkin University Characters

While the spinoff won't continue, the characters are not leaving the franchise entirely. Kripke and executive producer Evan Goldberg have committed to continuing the Gen V characters’ stories in The Boys Season 5 and other upcoming VCU projects.

Fans can expect to see Marie Moreau (Jaz Sinclair) and Jordan Li (London Thor) in later episodes of The Boys Season 5. While some speculated Marie's blood-manipulation powers might allow her to defeat Homelander, Kripke noted she has yet to fully master her abilities.

Jaz Sinclair also took a moment to acknowledge the fans following the news. “There’s so much I wanna (and will) say, but for today I just want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart,” Sinclair said.

Upcoming VCU Projects in Development

Kripke is currently brainstorming ways to repurpose ideas originally intended for Gen V Season 3 into new stories. The following projects are currently in active development:

  • Vought Rising: A prequel series scheduled for a 2027 release.
  • The Boys: Mexico: An upcoming expansion of the universe.

Vought Rising will feature a heavy-hitting cast, including Jensen Ackles as Soldier Boy, Mason Dye as Bombsight, Will Hochman as Torpedo, and Elizabeth Posey as Private Angel. Additionally, Aya Cash is set to return as the powerful supervillain Stormfront.
