Universal Pictures has officially announced a significant shift in its upcoming blockbuster schedule. In a major update, The Mummy 4 has been moved up to 2027, while the highly anticipated Miami Vice '85 is pushed to 2028.

Universal Pictures Reshuffles Release Calendar

The studio confirmed on Friday that Miami Vice ‘85 will move from its original August 6, 2027, date to Friday, May 19, 2028. This change allows the production to take the place of The Mummy 4. To fill the gap left by the shift, an Untitled Universal Event Film is now scheduled to open on the original August date.

The studio is also moving the release of The Mummy 4 from May 19, 2028, to Friday, October 15, 2027. This new slot replaces an Untitled Blumhouse Event Film, which has been rescheduled for Friday, October 8, 2027.

Casting and Production for Miami Vice ‘85 and The Mummy 4

Universal also shared exciting casting news for Miami Vice ‘85. Oscar winner Michael B. Jordan and Austin Butler are set to star as undercover cops Ricardo Tubbs and Sonny Crockett. The film, directed by Joseph Kosinski, is “inspired by the pilot episode and first season” of the iconic TV series.

The studio noted that the production will bring “current technological expertise to the sights and sounds of the series.” Furthermore, both this reboot and the next installment in the franchise are slated to be filmed for IMAX.

For fans of the adventure franchise, Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz will reprise their roles as Rick and Evie O'Connell. The upcoming The Mummy 4 will be directed by Radio Silence’s Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett.
