The upcoming Resident Evil movie is looking to tap into some divisive parts of the franchise's history. While Resident Evil 6 was not a hit with players when it launched in 2012, director Zach Cregger and production designer Tom Hammock are finding value in its design.
Reimagining Creatures for the Resident Evil Movie
During a recent set visit attended by GamesRadar, production designer Tom Hammock revealed that certain creatures from Resident Evil 6 will make an appearance on the big screen. The creative team is focusing on blending different eras of horror to create something new for this Resident Evil movie.
Drawing Inspiration From Series Classics
Hammock noted that while they are looking at the controversial sixth installment, they are also drawing heavily from other legendary titles. Specifically, the design process involves pulling specific biological elements from both Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil 6. This approach ensures the Resident Evil movie feels grounded in the franchise's most iconic roots.
Key Design Inspirations
The team is focusing on "language" for these creatures by integrating specific physical traits. According to Hammock, some of the elements being moved over to these new designs include:
- Tentacles
- Teeth integration
"You'll see a lot of Resident Evil 4, Resident Evil 6," said Hammock. "Zach and I went through and pulled specific creature elements that we like from the games, whether it's tentacles, the teeth integration, and then tried to take that language and move it over to these creatures."
