What do movies like Don't Breathe, Abost, The Collector, and The People Under the Stairs all have in common? They all focus on criminals who break into the wrong place at the wrong time. The co-op horror game Dark Hours takes this terrifying concept and turns it into a playable nightmare.
The Gameplay Mechanics of Dark Hours
In this title, players work in teams of up to four to execute high-stakes burglaries. Using proximity chat to communicate through the terror, you must navigate various haunted environments where breaking and entering is easy, but escaping alive is much harder.
The game sends you into several spine-chilling locations, including:
- A haunted casino
- An abandoned museum
- A creepy cruise ship
From Steam Early Access to PS5 and Xbox Series X|S
While it might feel like another recent "friendslop" title in the vein of REPO or YapYap, Dark Hours actually predates many of those hits. It first arrived on Steam just before Halloween 2024, followed by a year in early access, before officially hitting its 1.0 version last fall.
Now, the game is finally making its way to consoles, arriving on both PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. My early impressions suggest that Dark Hours feels much closer to a blend of Payday and Phasmophobia than it does to Lethal Company or Content Warning. If you are a fan of the current wave of cooperative horror, this is definitely one title you shouldn't miss.
