Since hitting the silver screen in 2011, Chris Hemsworth’s Thor has undergone a massive transformation. While his journey began with a Shakespearean tone, recent entries have embraced a much more comedic and rock-and-roll energy. Now, the Thor director wants a Logan-style final film for Chris Hemsworth to bring the character's epic saga to a definitive close.

A Logan-Style Final Film for Thor?

Kenneth Branagh, who directed the initial 2011 film, has long envisioned an emotional and gritty end for the God of Thunder. Speaking to Business Insider, Branagh revealed that while he was offered the chance to return for a sequel, he ultimately turned it down because he needed a break.

If he had continued on that path, Branagh admits his vision would have shifted toward something much darker. He specifically cited the tone of James Mangold's work as the inspiration for a potential Logan-style final film for Thor.

"I'd always wanted to do more and indeed had a couple of ideas, more in the territory of James Mangold's brilliant Logan,” Branagh said. "I would love to see Chris Hemsworth and the others have their own individual final story that takes Thor into a glorious twilight."

The Uncertain Future of the MCU

Whether Branagh can return to the director's chair remains to be seen. He expressed doubt regarding his involvement, noting how meticulously Marvel plans its long-term trajectory.

"That's a whole other question," Branagh said. "They are so far deep into the future of the Marvel Universe that I'm sure whatever plans they have for it are already kind of set."

As fans look toward the next era of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, several key milestones are on the horizon:

  • Avengers: Doomsday is officially in development.
  • Avengers: Secret Wars will follow as a massive ensemble event.
  • Thor's child companion from Love and Thunder is confirmed to return.

While Hemsworth has suggested there will be at least one more Thor movie following these major events, the character's ultimate fate remains a mystery. However, the stage is certainly set for a Logan-style final film for Thor if Marvel decides to embrace a grittier conclusion for the Asgardian.
