For anyone who enjoys gaming on the go, the dread of a low battery is a constant companion. This is why the recent announcement of the Framework 13 Pro has generated such significant buzz among Linux enthusiasts. While our hardware team has yet to test its true gaming endurance, early reports suggest this device could be the "MacBook Pro for Linux users" we've been waiting for.

GloriousEggRoll Adopts Framework 13 Pro

The initial feedback from the Linux development community is nothing short of glowing. Red Hat engineer and creator of Proton GE, known as GloriousEggRoll, recently shared his experience testing a unit on X. He confirmed that Nobara Linux runs beautifully on the hardware and that Kernel 7 performs great.

For those deep into the Steam Deck or Linux gaming scene, his endorsement carries massive weight. As the developer behind the most popular unofficial Proton build—which helps games run more smoothly on Linux—he knows exactly what a high-performance machine needs. When asked if he would use it as his primary machine, he revealed that he "already did."

CachyOS Reports Incredible Battery Life

The praise extends beyond individual developers to entire distributions. The official account for CachyOS, an Arch-based Linux distro, also highlighted the device's impressive capabilities. While they noted the high build quality, they were most surprised by how long the machine can stay unplugged.

After implementing some extra tuning with Intel-LPMD, the CachyOS team reported getting roughly two days of normal work out of a single charge. Their typical workload included:

  • Programming and terminal tasks
  • Web browsing
  • Chatting and communication

The team even claimed they now reach for the Framework 13 Pro over a MacBook Air for mobile work. According to CachyOS, Framework has finally successfully merged its famous repairability and upgradeability with a truly premium user experience.
