The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Songs of the Past Expansion DLC Announced

CD Projekt has revealed the third expansion for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, titled Songs of the Past. Set to launch in 2027, the DLC will return players to the role of Geralt of Rivia on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. This marks an 11‑year gap from the 2016 release of Blood and Wine and a full 12 years after the original game debuted in 2015.

Development and Release Details

The new expansion is being co‑developed by CD Projekt and Fool’s Theory, a team of industry veterans who contributed to the original game. CD Projekt plans to share additional details in late summer 2026. To support the new content, the studio will update system requirements, ensuring smooth performance on all platforms.

What to Expect

  • New Story Arc – Geralt embarks on a fresh adventure that expands the world’s lore.
  • Enhanced Gameplay Mechanics – Expect refined combat and new monster encounters.
  • Cross‑Platform Availability – Release on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC simultaneously.
  • System Requirement Update – Adjustments to keep the game running optimally with the DLC.

Context in CD Projekt’s Roadmap

CD Projekt is busy with multiple projects:

  • The Witcher 4 remains in production, with an earliest launch window of 2027.
  • A six‑year roadmap includes The Witcher 5 and The Witcher 6.
  • No new Cyberpunk DLC is planned; the studio has ruled out additional content for Cyberpunk 2077, and Cyberpunk 2 is not expected until at least 2030.
  • Outside games, the studio is promoting Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 at Anime Expo on July 3.

The announcement follows an official anniversary stream for Blood and Wine on May 28, which sparked speculation about upcoming expansions. CD Projekt confirmed the release of Songs of the Past the day before.

With these plans, fans can look forward to a significant expansion that will enrich the beloved title while CD Projekt simultaneously advances its broader fantasy and cyberpunk franchises.
