God of War Laufey Actor Clarifies the Game’s Story Isn’t Gender-Focused

Actor Deborah Ann Woll, who voices Laufey — also known as Faye — in God of War Laufey, has shared more about the game’s narrative and its themes. While the previous God of War titles centered on Kratos, this new entry shifts the focus to Faye's journey. In an interview with CGMagazine, Woll expressed excitement about the opportunity to play a central role in the franchise.

"We need as much diversity as possible within these stories so that we can tell even more stories," Woll said. "This is all just about enjoying each other’s perspectives and widening our experiences. If I get to, in some small part, do that for women within gaming, I’m very excited about that."

Woll also addressed the notion that God of War Laufey is exclusively for women. She emphasized that the game's themes are universal and accessible to all players.

"I think we find universality through specificity," she explained. "And there is nothing about this experience that Faye is having that anyone else of any gender could not relate to. This is a story about a parent. This is a story about regret. This is about being a better person than who you were before. And are you enough? Can you possibly make up for those wrongs? It’s about preparing your family for your loss. What do you want to leave to them to make sure that they’re okay?"

Woll reiterated that these are universal ideas that don't hinge on gender. The narrative simply unfolds from a woman's perspective, offering a new lens through which players can experience the story.

"I think about the people who, maybe because of their childhood or their parents now really related to Kratos and Atreus’ story," Woll said. "And felt really seen by that. I love the idea that now we’ll have more people who feel seen by Faye’s story, and hopefully those same people will also feel seen by that."

What to Expect from God of War Laufey

While God of War Laufey is currently in development for the PS5, it has not yet received an official release date. The game features a unique cast, with Woll as Faye and Jack Quaid — known for his role in The Boys — voicing Phranque, a gelatinous cube character. This blend of familiar and new voices aims to bring fresh storytelling to the God of War universe.
