Playground Games design director Torben Ellert recently sat down with the community for a Q&A on the official Forza Discord server, providing several fresh Forza Horizon 6 details ahead of next month's highly anticipated launch. The discussion touched on everything from new racing modes to how the game handles car availability, offering much-needed clarity for returning fans.

New Touge Battles and Racing Mechanics

One of the most exciting reveals involves the introduction of touge battles. These are specialized one-on-one events set across five preset mountain passes located throughout the map.

Key details regarding these races include:

  • Single-player access: You can find specific opponents parked near the start of a route to trigger a battle.
  • Freedom of play: Touge battles are not tied to festival progression, meaning you can jump into them at any time during your single-player campaign.
  • Online competition: An online championship will provide a constant rotation of one-on-one battles across the five mountain routes.

Additionally, the massive "Goliath" race is confirmed to be part of the experience, clocking in at a staggering 50 miles (80 kilometres). This race, along with various other events, will originate from Legend Island—an area of the map that remains locked until players reach the highest rank within the Horizon Festival.

Changes to the Festival Playlist and Car Acquisition

In a significant departure from previous entries, the way players interact with the Festival Playlist is being overhauled. While the playlist becomes available shortly after you join the Horizon Festival (roughly an hour into gameplay), Playground Games is addressing concerns regarding "missing out" on cars.

Unlike Forza Horizon 5, where time-limited cars often required years to reappear, new information suggests that cars from elapsed playlists will be made available after the fact. While the exact mechanism isn't fully detailed, it appears they may be integrated into a new aftermarket car system.

The Aftermarket Car System

The developer explained how players can acquire vehicles outside of the standard playlist:

  • Fixed locations: Aftermarket car locations are fixed on the map, though not all will be active simultaneously.
  • Dynamic spawns: Cars sprinkled around the map for discovery and purchase will be different for every player.
  • Rarity: It was emphasized that unique Forza Edition cars will remain exceptionally rare.

Miscellaneous Forza Horizon 6 Details

The Q&A also touched on several smaller but noteworthy updates to the game's ecosystem. For instance, the former "Forzathon Live" has been rebranded as Stunt Party. In a surprising nod to classic car culture, the level 1 starter vehicle for the game's Eliminator mode will be the 1984 Honda City.

As we approach the launch, Playground Games has promised that more information regarding the game's radio stations will be released shortly. For players looking to dive deeper into the mechanics, seasons, and customization options, keep a close eye on upcoming developer deep dives.
