Good news for players running "Team Red" hardware: Advanced Shader Delivery (ASD) is now officially supported on AMD RDNA 3, 3.5, and 4 GPUs. This means users with Radeon RX 7000, 8000, and 9000 series graphics cards can finally leverage this technology via the latest Adrenalin drivers to mitigate one of PC gaming's most persistent headaches.

Originally announced in 2025 for the ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X handhelds, this tech aims to eliminate the dreaded "shader compilation stutter" that often plagues first-time launches. By precompiling and caching data before you even hit play, ASD ensures a much smoother experience from the jump.

How Advanced Shader Delivery Works

The core mechanic of Advanced Shader Delivery relies on a collaborative effort between Microsoft and AMD. Rather than forcing your local hardware to struggle through heavy compilation tasks during your first session, Microsoft has partnered with developers to precompile shader data and distribute it directly during the game download process.

However, there are significant caveats to keep in mind:

  • Platform Restriction: This currently only works if you are downloading games via the Xbox app.
  • Hardware Requirements: You must be running an AMD GPU and Windows.
  • User Status: At this stage, the feature is part of a "public preview" specifically for Xbox Insiders.

Massive Performance Gains in Key Titles

The real-world impact of this technology is already proving to be transformative for supported games. According to the DirectX Developer Blog, a close partnership with the Forza Horizon 6 team has allowed the game to showcase the massive advantages of ASD.

On a test machine equipped with an AMD Radeon RX 7600 GPU and an AMD Ryzen 7 5800 CPU, the technology reduced initial load times from a grueling 1.5 minutes down to just 4 seconds—a staggering 95% improvement.

Supported Games and Future Outlook

While not every title is compatible, several high-profile recent releases benefit from this rollout on AMD laptops and desktops. When launching a supported game, you may see a brief "Precompiled shaders installed" message in the launch window, though it disappears almost instantly.

Supported titles currently include:

  • Forza Horizon 6
  • Call of Duty: Black Ops 6
  • Clair Obscur: Expedition 33
  • Silent Hill f
  • Ninja Gaiden 4

While the DirectX Dev blog has encouraged developers to leverage the latest AgilitySDK to implement ASD, the technology's reach is currently limited to the Microsoft ecosystem. There is no word yet on whether this streamlined shader tech will eventually expand to Steam, Epic, or GOG. For now, if you want to avoid long loads and stuttering, staying within the Xbox ecosystem on AMD hardware is your best bet.
