The gaming industry is reeling from news that a prolific RPG studio has officially closed its doors. Spiders, the Paris-based developer behind Greedfall: The Dying World, has confirmed it is shutting down and undergoing immediate liquidation.

The End of This Prolific RPG Studio

The closure comes as a shock to fans who have followed the studio's work for years. In an official statement, the developers were blunt about the situation facing the company.

"We're going to cut straight to the chase so you're not left wondering: After a long period without clear answers, we have received confirmation that Spiders is being liquidated," the studio said. "This means the company as a whole no longer exists. We'll cease our functions immediately. We're sorry that it's come to this and would like to thank each and every one of you for your support over the years."

Financial Instability at Nacon and Bigben Interactive

The collapse of this prolific RPG studio is a direct result of broader financial instability within its corporate hierarchy. Spiders' parent company, Nacon, has filed for insolvency following a chain reaction of financial struggles.

This downturn began when the majority shareholder in the publisher, Bigben Interactive, started experiencing significant financial difficulties. The ripple effect from Bigben Interactive has ultimately led to the immediate cessation of Spiders' operations.

What Happens to Greedfall and the Community?

While the studio itself is no longer operational, there is some clarity regarding upcoming content and community spaces:

  • Greedfall DLC: The Greedfall: The Dying World DLC will still be released through Nacon.
  • Community Access: The Spiders Discord channel will be handed over to the community to ensure players can remain connected.

Despite the loss of the studio, fans of their RPG titles can still look forward to the completion of their existing projects via the publisher.
