Embark has announced a much-needed Arc Raiders Trials overhaul to address the community's frustrations with the game's competitive system. In a dedicated blog post, the developers revealed they are finally tackling the widely maligned Trials system.
While some players have claimed the system is "ruining the game," the current consensus suggests it has largely been ignored due to bland objectives and rigid schedules. To fix this, Embark is implementing significant changes starting with Trials Season 4 on April 29, just one day after the massive Riven Tides update.
Removing Restrictions for a Fairer Competition
The primary goal of this Arc Raiders Trials overhaul is "giving all Raiders a fair chance to get stuck in and grind." Embark is focusing on removing the unnecessary barriers that previously prevented players from climbing the leaderboards.
One of the most impactful changes involves the timing of events. Previously, Trials were unavailable during the Expedition window; however, they will now kick off earlier to provide more flexibility. This shift aligns with broader changes to Expedations, where developers are now rewarding players for killing bots rather than simply hoarding loot.
To ensure a smoother experience, Embark is also stripping away map-specific requirements:
- Eliminating Map Conditions: Challenges tied to specific events, such as "disarm mines" or "get hit by lightning," are being removed or reworked.
- Removing Point Multipliers: Major map conditions will no longer grant double points, allowing players to complete Trials on any map they choose.
- Standardizing Schedules: Developers are moving away from strict event windows, with certain modes like Close Scrutiny becoming permanently active.
New Objectives and Season 4 Rewards
Beyond just removing restrictions, Embark is focused on injecting fresh gameplay into the mode. The developers have acknowledged that the current challenges lack variety and are working to improve the competitive integrity of the leaderboards.
"We hear you—Trials challenges need more variation, and Season 4 intends to deliver," Embark stated. While they aren't revealing everything yet, players can expect new objectives involving melee combat, utilizing specific gadgets or grenades, and searching through unique containers.
The centerpiece of the upcoming season is the new Recon outfit. The progression system for this reward remains familiar:
- Unlock the base Recon outfit by reaching Tryhard I rank.
- Upgrade the outfit as you progress through the season.
- Earn additional color variations by reaching Hotshot and Cantina Legend ranks.
Embark has acknowledged the "unfair advantages" previously seen within squads and remains committed to evolving the system. "In Season 4 we’re taking the first steps to allow all players to participate without any time scheduling constraints, and we’ll continue to listen to your comments as the season progresses."
