Fans of Ubisoft’s pirate epic have reason to celebrate. During a recent Reddit AMA, the developers of Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced confirmed that many beloved features from the original are making a full comeback. Creative Director Paul Fu and Game Director Richard Knight shared updates on everything from sea hunts to significant new combat mechanics.
Nostalgic Features Returning to the Caribbean
The developers confirmed that iconic side activities, including whaling, shark hunting, and bell diving, will all be available in the remake. Players can also look forward to returning to the tavern for classic bar games, such as checkers, presented exactly as they were in the original.
For those seeking a high-stakes challenge, the elite Legendary Ships are officially returning. Knight noted that these ships "are as brutal as ever to fight," and fans can expect a naval deep dive later in May for more information.
The management of your maritime empire is also getting an upgrade. The original mobile minigame, Kenway's Fleet, has been fully integrated into the game itself.
- Kenway's Fleet is now accessible via the Hideout or the Captain's Cabin.
- No external mobile device is required to manage your ships.
- The system is built directly into the Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced interface.
New Mechanics and Combat in Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced
Navigational gameplay is receiving a modern quality-of-life boost with the introduction of the Pathfinder ability. This allows the Jackdaw to utilize an autopilot mode to travel toward specific objectives or waypoints without manual steering.
However, players won't be able to completely ignore the helm. Knight warned that "Edward's hands must stay at the wheel," meaning you cannot wander around the ship while sailing, as attacks could arrive at any moment. Additionally, while certain events like white whale sightings are built into the game, new online content will appear in the form of Anomalies, similar to those seen in Assassin's Creed Shadows.
The combat system has also undergone a significant redesign:
- Dual swords serve as Edward's primary weapons in battle.
- The Hidden Blade is no longer a selectable weapon but acts as a fatal, contextual (and bloody!) takedown.
- This takedown is triggered specifically when you break an opponent's defense, making it a critical part of moment-to-moment combat.
Release Date and Editions
Beyond the new mechanics, the remake will retain the classic Wanted System, social stealth mechanics, remappable controls, and all original costumes. The return of Pirate Hunters stalking players with high wanted levels ensures the tension remains high.
Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced is currently scheduled to launch on July 9 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. For hardcore collectors, a $200 Collector's Edition will be available, which includes the same Edward Kenway statue that surfaced on Vinted earlier this year.
