Assassin's Creed Hexe Loses Another Top Developer, Who Quit To Start Their Own Studio

Development for Assassin's Creed Hexe is facing another significant setback as game director Benoit Richer departs Ubisoft Montreal. After a nine-year tenure with the developer, Richer has officially announced his exit to co-found an independent studio.

Growing Talent Departures for Assassin's Creed Hexe

Richer is the latest high-profile name to leave the Assassin's Creed Hexe team, following the departure of creative director Clint Hocking earlier this year. This string of exits marks a period of transition for the highly anticipated title.

Writing on LinkedIn to share his news, Richer stated, "This is the beginning of a new chapter." He will transition into the role of game director at Servo Games, a new independent studio based in Quebec.

The Vision and Tech Behind Servo Games

The newly formed studio is dedicated to creating single-player experiences that emphasize high-quality aesthetics and gameplay precision. Specifically, Servo Games is focusing on:

  • Atmospheric experiences featuring top-tier visuals.
  • Industry-defining character animation.
  • Meticulously refined controls.

To achieve these goals, the studio is building its upcoming projects using Unreal Engine 5, targeting both PC and current-generation consoles.

A New Venture Built by Industry Veterans

Richer is not alone in this new endeavor; he is joined by several seasoned developers with deep roots in the industry. The founding team includes:

  • Alex Drouin: A veteran who led animation teams for Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time and Assassin's Creed. He previously left Ubisoft Montreal to start THQ's Montreal studio, which was eventually acquired by Ubisoft.
  • Luc Tremblay: A former Ubisoft veteran.
  • Dany Marcoux: A former Ubisoft veteran.
