RuneScape just doesn't feel like RuneScape without the ability to spend hours of your life fishing. When RuneScape: Dragonwilds first released without this essential skill, it was incredibly disappointing. Fortunately, we don't have much longer to wait, as fishing in RuneScape: Dragonwilds is officially arriving in Ashenfall on April 21.

What to Expect from Fishing in RuneScape: Dragonwilds

A new trailer shared to the official Dragonwilds YouTube channel shows exactly what players can expect. The footage even features a jolly remix of Sea Shanty 2 playing in the background, and it hits all the right notes. While there are only so many ways to imagine fishing in a survival game, this update delivers exactly what fans hoped for.

You and your friends will be able to gather around ponds and pools across the world to cast lines. However, the gameplay looks more varied than just sitting with a rod. Judging by the trailer, you can also use nets at the water's edge to catch different species.

The update also introduces several exciting features for players:

  • Mounted Trophies: If you are proud of a specific catch, you can create a trophy to display in your base. The trailer already shows seven different mounted fish.
  • Magic Skills: Players can use spells on the water to fling fish into the air, providing a more efficient (if chaotic) alternative to traditional methods.
  • Level 99 Rewards: Much like other skills in the game, fishing will feature a level 99 cap.

Reaching the Level 99 Cap

Reaching the top tier of this new skill comes with its own prestige. Players who dedicate hours to the grind will be rewarded with a sleek, blue-ish purple cape featuring a silver fish emblem in the middle.

It is undoubtedly a worthy prize for the effort required to master the waters. After such a long wait for this much-needed addition, it would be rude not to make the most of fishing in RuneScape: Dragonwilds.
