Unlocking Fishing with the Coarse Net
The first step to unlocking fishing as a skill is crafting a Coarse Net. To do this, you must take the following materials to a crafting table:

Once crafted, head to Bramblemead Valley and locate the Wise Old Man in the derelict building. He will provide the Shrimp Catcher quest, which tasks you with catching a sardine and returning it to him.
Since you cannot craft a rod just yet, you must start by net fishing. Head to the pond located north of the tower between Temple Woods and Bramlamed Valley. Look for patches of water with white ripples, as these are specific net fishing spots. Use your net here to catch everything from weeds and stones to raw shrimps until you reach level 3.

Reaching level 3 unlocks the recipe for an Ash Rod. To craft this essential tool, you will need:
- 1x Ash Log
- 1x Coarse Thread
Return to the pond between Temple Woods and Bramblemead Valley to find rod fishing spots. Unlike the small bubbles used for net fishing, these spots feature much larger ripples where you can see fish swimming beneath the surface.
Once you find a spot, stand on the edge and hold the left mouse button to cast your line. If you don't have bait attached, there is a high chance you will reel in "junk." However, if a fish nibbles your line, it will begin pulling left and right. To succeed, use the A and D keys to pull the line in the opposite direction of the fish's movement. This tires the fish out, allowing you to reel it in with the left mouse button.
Completing the Shrimp Catcher Quest
Your first catch will likely be the sardine required for your quest. Once you have captured it, head back to the Wise Old Man to hand it over. Upon completion, he will reward you with:
