How to Join the New Camp in Gothic Remake

If you're looking to align yourself with the New Camp in Gothic Remake, you're in for a journey that's both challenging and rewarding. As one of the three available factions, the New Camp is a group of thieves and mercenaries who control the lives of farmers and miners, promoting a lifestyle centered around freedom. However, joining them isn’t a quick or easy process—it involves a series of quests, negotiations, and even some combat. Here’s how to get started.

Locate the New Camp

Your first step is to find the New Camp itself. This faction is located in the hills on the west side of The Colony. To get there, you’ll need to leave the Old Camp via its south gate and head west toward a large body of water visible on the upper left of the map. The New Camp is situated near this area, but the journey is not without its dangers. It’s advisable to complete a few of the Casting Shadows quests first to build up your strength and resources.

Once you're ready, bug Thorus in the Old Camp for work. Eventually, he’ll assign you the Out of Sight quest, which requires you to eliminate Mordrag. When you speak to Mordrag, he’ll mention his role as a messenger for the New Camp. This opens the door for you to join them, as he’ll take you to the camp. Along the way, Mordrag will defeat enemies, and you’ll receive a ring that grants you access to Lares, the leader of the New Camp.

Gaining Access to the New Camp

Once you arrive at the New Camp, follow these steps to gain entry:

  • Head up the hill past the farm, across the dam or bridge, and into the large cave on your left.
  • Stay on the left side of the cave and climb the hill to find Lares’ house.
  • Use the ring you received from Mordrag to convince the guards to let you in. Speak to Lares, who will outline the steps you need to take to earn his favor and officially join the New Camp.

Key Sub-Quests to Complete

To fully integrate into the New Camp, you’ll need to complete several sub-quests that build trust with both Lares and the Rice Lord. These quests include:

  • A Piece of the Pie: Lares requires 400 ore nuggets. To obtain these, speak to Baal Kagan at the base of the hill near Lares’ house and complete the Canvassing Customers quest. Sell ten Green Novice items to bandits in the camp, earning 10 ore each. Use this money to bribe the guards at the lake tavern and speak to Baal Isidro, who will give you a quest to sell swampweed. To persuade him, buy him some rice schnapps from bartender Silas. Once you've sold enough, return to Lares with the 400 ore nuggets.

  • A Few Drops Too Much: Speak to the Rice Lord near the camp gates. He’ll ask you to assist Silas at the lake tavern. Either confront Rayk or convince him to calm down.

  • Up to His Neck: After completing A Few Drops Too Much, the Rice Lord will send you to find Bran, his missing foreman. Speak to farmer Malon and follow his lead to a cave by a pond used by Jacko and Renyu. Inside the cave, beat up Jacko, who will tell you that Bran was sent to rob the New Camp tavern’s basement. Once you’ve dealt with Jacko, head to Silas’ lake tavern and find the basement. You can either lockpick the door or swim underneath the tavern to access it. Once inside, find Bran’s body and read the note before confronting Silas. Return to the Rice Lord to complete the quest.

  • Something the Matter?: If you have the Test of Faith quest from Diego in the Old Camp, head to the Old Mine in the northwest of The Colony. Speak to Ian to get the supply list, but instead of returning to Diego, go to Lares, who will tamper with the list. This starts the Something the Matter? quest, where you simply need to give the altered list to Diego and return to Lares to complete it.

  • The Raid: After completing all the above quests, speak to Lares to ask if you’re ready for the final test. He’ll assign you The Raid quest. Speak to Gorn near the entrance of the cave to get a free sword. Then, go to the road between the Old Mine and the Old Camp. Your task is to complete the raid, which will solidify your status as a true member of the New Camp.
