Atomfall, Known As "British Fallout" To Some, Is Getting A TV Show

Fans of the action-survival hit Atomfall, frequently referred to as "British Fallout," have a major reason to celebrate: a TV adaptation is officially in development. Two Brothers Pictures has announced that it has secured the rights to produce a television series based on the acclaimed title.

The Expansion of Atomfall into Television

The production powerhouse, Two Brothers Pictures, will lead the adaptation, with the game's developer, Rebellion, also involved in the project. This announcement follows Rebellion’s recent success at the BAFTAs, where they took home the award for Best British Game.

A Story Rooted in Nuclear History

The narrative of the game is deeply grounded in real-world tragedy, drawing inspiration from the 1957 Windscale nuclear disaster. The setting takes place within a strictly controlled, walled-in quarantine zone established after the nuclear incident.

In the game, players awaken within this quarantine zone with no recollection of how they arrived. Their primary objective is to uncover the truth behind their situation and ultimately find a way out.

The world of Atomfall is defined by several key elements:

  • Amnesia-driven plot: Players begin their journey with total memory loss.
  • Post-nuclear setting: A landscape shaped by the aftermath of a nuclear catastrophe.
  • Historical inspiration: A story rooted in the real-world Windscale disaster.

Staying True to the Source Material

The success of the game has already been massive, with Atomfall reaching more than 3.7 million players worldwide, aided significantly by its inclusion on Xbox Game Pass.

As the transition to the small screen begins, producers are focused on maintaining the essence of the original experience. According to a press release, the show will "expand on the game's mythology while remaining faithful to its tone, themes, and British roots."
