A massive Battlefield movie is officially in development. Oscar winners Michael B. Jordan and Christopher McQuarrie are reportedly attached to a feature film adaptation of Electronic Arts’ bestselling military video game franchise.
The Creative Powerhouse Behind the Battlefield Movie
According to The Hollywood Reporter, McQuarrie—who won the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay for The Usual Suspects and directed the last four Mission: Impossible films—is set to write, direct, and produce the project.
Jordan, who recently won the Best Actor Oscar for Sinners, is attached to produce and may also take a starring role. The production lineup includes:
- Electronic Arts (EA) serving as a producer
- Michael B. Jordan in a producing and potentially acting capacity
- Christopher McQuarrie handling writing, directing, and producing
High Stakes and Theatrical Ambitions
The package is currently being shopped to major studios, including Sony and Apple. Unlike many recent adaptations, this project is intended for a theatrical release rather than a streaming-only debut.
However, bringing this Battlefield movie to life will be an expensive endeavor. THR reports that studio executives should prepare for significant costs, noting that both talent fees and the rights to the game itself will be pricey. This follows previous attempts by Fox and Paramount to adapt the franchise into a TV series.
The Legacy of the Battlefield Franchise
The gaming franchise began with 2002’s Battlefield 1942. The most recent entry, Battlefield 6, received an 8/10 from IGN upon its release last year.
In his review, IGN critic Justin Koreis praised the game's impact: “expertly crafted, wrapped in a wonderful layer of destructibility that both looks great and materially affects the flow of combat. … Like a precision shot from my trusty M2010 sniper rifle, this one’s a hit.”
While fans await more news on the Battlefield movie, Michael B. Jordan remains busy with other projects. He is currently in post-production on his directorial effort, a remake of The Thomas Crown Affair, and will next star in Miami Vice ‘85 later this year.
