Mega Crit has officially released the latest Slay the Spire 2 patch notes for beta version 0.104.0. This update is part of an ongoing effort to fine-tune game balance, specifically aiming to make the experience "more accessible for a wide range of players." The developers shared these specific details regarding the deckbuilder roguelike sequel on their Steam page.
In addition to standard bug fixes and new art, the update includes a direct message from the developer regarding difficulty scaling. Mega Crit is actively working to ensure the game remains approachable for newcomers without sacrificing the prestige of high-level play.
Balancing Ascensions in the Slay the Spire 2 Patch Notes
The developers noted that the current base difficulty has proven too challenging for some players. To address this, they are adjusting the baseline experience while ensuring that reaching the highest Ascensions remains a significant feat.
"We're continuously adjusting this baseline difficulty to make it more accessible for a wide range of players, while also continuing to deliver a challenging game at the highest Ascensions," Mega Crit stated. To help manage player expectations, a new message will appear after your first successful run to communicate the intention behind the Ascension system.
The studio emphasized that completing runs at maximum difficulty should still feel like a "monumental achievement" for the dedicated fraction of players who master the game's complex mechanics.
Monitoring the Doormaker Boss
The community has recently voiced significant concerns regarding the Doormaker boss fight. Mega Crit confirmed they are listening to this feedback and monitoring in-game metrics, social media posts, and player reports.
While the developers want to avoid making changes based solely on "kneejerk reactions," they are keeping a close eye on how the boss's mechanics affect different playstyles. Currently, the Doormaker win rate and difficulty are considered to be in a good place, sitting slightly weaker than other Act 3 bosses in terms of both damage dealt and kill rate.
Key Changes and Card Reworks in v0.104.0
The recent Slay the Spire 2 patch notes also highlight several significant card reworks and new features designed to improve gameplay synergy. The update includes a buff to Neow's Fury and several mechanical shifts for the Ironclad and Regent classes.
Notable changes include:
- New Badges: Added "Damage Leader" (most damage in multiplayer), "Debuffer" (most debuffs applied), and "C-c-c-Combo" (playing 20 cards in one turn).
- Ironclad Rework (Conflagration): Changed from a single hit of 8(9) damage to an attack that deals 2 damage 4(5) times.
- Ironclad Rework (Drum of Battle): Transitioned from a Cost 0 card to a Cost 1 Skill. When this card is Exhausted, the player now gains 2(3) Energy.
- Regent Rework (Parry): Now causes Sovereign Blade to gain 10(14) Block, making the effect visible on the card itself and allowing it to interact with Dexterity and Frail.
The game originally released for PC via Steam Early Access on March 5, 2026. While the project has faced recent review-bombing campaigns that brought scores to "Mixed," the developers continue to iterate based on community input as they move toward a 1.0 launch.
