How to Earn Ore in Gothic Remake

Acquiring ore in Gothic Remake can be a challenging endeavor, especially early on when resources are scarce. Warders demand protection money, and basic gear is expensive, making it crucial to find efficient ways to accumulate ore. Fortunately, the game offers multiple methods to earn ore, ranging from hunting and thievery to smithing and mining. These methods can help players build a solid foundation for progression and survival.

Early Game Strategies

In the early stages of the game, it's advisable to collect and sell any items you find, especially herbs and mushrooms, which can be surprisingly valuable. These resources can be used to purchase essential items like maps and better equipment. As you progress through the main quest and clear key dungeons such as the goblin cave and orc cemetery, you’ll encounter humanoid enemies whose weapons can be sold for a significant amount of ore.

Hunting for Profit

One of the most effective ways to earn ore is through hunting. You can learn hunting skills from Drax, a bald hunter located on the right side of the road after descending from the mine into the central valley. Drax requires a beer, which can be found in chests within the mine or at the goods exchange. With these skills, you can extract more materials from the monsters you defeat, increasing your earnings.

Additionally, you can learn advanced hunting skills from Cavalorn, who resides in a house to the west of the Old Camp. To access these skills, you need to bring him the Beasts of Khorinis II book from the Old Mine and the Minecrawler Queen’s gland. Other books from the Beasts of Khorinis series can be found across the map, offering further opportunities to enhance your hunting abilities.

Thievery and Looting

As a criminal, thievery is a natural progression. You can either lockpick or pickpocket items, or simply mug people who attack you. If you find yourself in a fight, don’t hesitate to steal their belongings. This method can be particularly effective in the New Camp, a lawless area in the west of the map. The trader Mordrag can escort you there and is located on the east side of the cloth-covered market area in the south of the Old Camp.

Smithing for Wealth

Once you reach the Old Camp, you can learn one-handed smithing from Huno, whose forge is located near the arena. To learn this skill, you need 10 learning points and 50 ore. With this skill, you can craft weapons from materials you find or steal and sell them for profit.

To get started, look for the Light Club (Mace) blueprint near the beginning of the game. It can be found by climbing up the rocks on the left side of the area above the locked mine entrance. After defeating the goblin and enemies there, you can retrieve the blueprint from his den. Another useful blueprint, the Sword of Judgement, can be found in the northwest mine, specifically on the desk by Ian during the Diego's Test of Faith quest.

Mining for Ore

If you prefer a more direct approach, mining is a viable, though slow, method to accumulate ore. The Old Mine in the northwest of the colony contains blue ore deposits that can be mined with a pickaxe. Each interaction with an ore node yields between one and three ore nuggets, with the amount decreasing as the deposit depletes.

In addition to mining, you can collect loose ore nuggets from other miners or large piles found in the lower areas of the mine. While this method is tedious, it can provide a small but steady income to invest in more profitable activities.

By employing these strategies—hunting, thievery, smithing, and mining—you can efficiently accumulate ore in Gothic Remake and progress through the game with the necessary resources.
