GameSpot is moving!

The GameSpot community is about to experience a major evolution: GameSpot is moving to an entirely new platform. After 13 years of operating on a custom-built CMS—a system that supported the site through various ownership changes and different eras of web publishing—we are officially making the switch.

We are transitioning to WordPress VIP, a best-in-class solution designed for high-performance publishing. This strategic move is intended to shift our internal energy away from the technical burden of maintaining a legacy website and toward constant innovation on a modern infrastructure.

What to expect during the migration

We want to ensure this transition is as seamless as possible for our long-time readers. While GameSpot is moving to new technology, we have prioritized keeping your user experience intact.

Here is how the move affects your current standing with us:

  • Account Access: Your existing GameSpot account will migrate automatically to the new site.
  • Credentials: You can continue using your same email address and password.
  • No Re-registration: There is no need to sign up again or wait for password reset emails; everything should work immediately.

The future of user engagement

While the core experience remains, some elements of the old site will not be available immediately. Specifically, we are not bringing over the previous version's user-generated components just yet.

After analyzing how the community interacted with the site over the years, it became clear that these older tools no longer met your needs due to increased competition and a lack of development focus. We view this transition as an opportunity rather than a loss.

This migration is the first step in helping us decide where we can truly win, allowing us to build better, more innovative ways for you to engage with our coverage moving forward.
