Antony Starr, the actor behind Homelander, has addressed concerns regarding how The Boys series finale will conclude. In a recent interview with Wired, Starr expressed his desire to avoid the "head-scratching" conclusion of a recent, unnamed series. He wants to ensure the final season delivers the high-stakes impact fans expect.
Antony Starr’s Take on Recent TV Endings
While Starr refused to name the specific show, many believe he is referring to the recent conclusion of Netflix's Stranger Things. He noted that certain finales leave viewers feeling as though the story has reached a dead end because no major characters died.
"I was scratching my head at the end going, ‘There's nowhere else to go. This is the end of the run. Kill some people,’" Starr admitted.
Before the Stranger Things finale aired, co-creator Matt Duffer had already attempted to manage expectations. He insisted the show would not feature a "Red Wedding" style event, stating: "We’re not in Westeros... I think some things happen in the finale that are very surprising, but we’re not trying to shock or upset anyone."
Why The Boys Series Finale Will Feature More Deaths
Unlike other recent conclusions, The Boys series finale is expected to be much more brutal. Showrunner Eric Kripke has encouraged fans not to get too attached to the cast. As Kripke famously noted, "everyone's head is potentially on the block."
Season 5 has already proven that no one is safe under Homelander’s reign. So far, we have witnessed the following major deaths:
- A-Train: Taken out by Homelander.
- Firecracker: Recently killed by Homelander.
The Future of Butcher and Hughie
With only a few episodes remaining, the tension is mounting for the rest of the crew. Fans are left wondering if characters like Butcher or Hughie will survive the upcoming onslaught.
The Boys Season 5, Episode 6 is scheduled to hit Prime Video next week.
