How to Get a Map in Gothic Remake
If you're playing Gothic Remake, you might quickly realize that navigating the world can be a bit tricky, especially since there's no built-in compass. To help you get your bearings, you’ll need to acquire a map yourself. These maps are essential for getting a lay of the land, whether you're exploring the Old Camp or venturing out into the wider colony region. While they won't mark important NPCs or locations directly, they can still be a valuable tool for orientation.
Where to Find Maps in Gothic Remake
You can purchase a map once you arrive in the Old Camp, and there are two main options available. Graham, the map maker, sells both a Colony map and an Old Camp map. However, if you're looking for a more cost-effective option, you can buy the Colony map from Dexter in the market area for 24 ore nuggets, which is significantly cheaper than Graham's 44 ore nuggets. This is the map you’ll likely want to invest in, as it covers the broader area of the game world.
Here’s how to find both Graham and Dexter:
- Graham's Shack: Located right next to the north gate (where you originally enter the Old Camp). You can find him wandering around the area during the day or near the cooking cauldron nearby. He has a short black beard, a receding hairline, and is dressed in basic digger clothes.
- Dexter: On the south side of the Old Camp in the market area. To get there:
- Head to the castle entrance from the north gate.
- Take a right and follow the path past the water and Gravo's shack.
- Keep following the path around the outside of the castle until you reach the market with the cloth coverings hanging above. Dexter is usually on the right side during the day by the pelt racks.
While Graham also sells the Old Camp map for 35 ore nuggets, it’s not strictly necessary to buy it. The Old Camp is a small area—basically a circle of shacks around a castle—and you’ll likely remember where everything is after a while.
Are All Maps Worth Buying?
Later in the game, you can purchase additional maps that mark specific locations on your Colony map, such as the Test of Faith quest for Diego, which involves visiting the old mine. However, these maps may not be worth the cost, especially since you can often remember important locations based on their visual indicators on the map or place your own markers to help you keep track.
With a bit of strategy, you can navigate Gothic Remake efficiently without needing to purchase every map available. Focus on getting the Colony map early on, and use the marker system to keep track of important spots as you explore.
