The Hyacinth Macaw is arguably the most frustrating legendary bird to tame in Crimson Desert. While it might look like just another blue parrot, catching this specimen is significantly more difficult than crafting Platinum for the Iron Eagle or using explosive arrows to down a Phoenix.
The primary reason for this difficulty is pure RNG. The Hyacinth Macaw follows an incredibly unpredictable flight path, making it nearly impossible to pin down without the right setup. Additionally, because this bird shares its favorite food with other local species, your feeder will often be raided by opportunistic scavengers.
Preparation: What You Need to Tame the Hyacinth Macaw
Before you can successfully catch this legendary bird, you need to gather specific items and clear your way. Follow these steps to prepare for the hunt:
- Unlock the Sotdae of Bond: Just like other legendary birds in the game, you cannot tame the macaw without this essential bird feeder.
- Gather 10x Desert Melons: This is the Macaw's preferred food. Each melon provides +15 Trust, meaning you need at least seven melons for a successful taming. We recommend bringing ten to account for the other birds that will inevitably try to steal your supply.
- Liberate the Giant's Yard Outpost: Located in the far east of Pywel (west of Red River and south of Red Tree Forest), this camp is held by the Wolf Trackable. While not mandatory, clearing the camp makes setting up your feeding station much safer.
Where to Buy Desert Melons
You can find these essential fruits from two different vendors:
- The Grocer in Tommaso: Located near the stable, they sell five melons.
- The Grocer in Varnia: They stock an additional seven melons.
If you run out of funds or stock, you can buy the first five, rest for 12 hours, and return to purchase more.
The Taming Process: Location and Strategy
Once you have your supplies and the outpost is liberated, it is time to set your trap. To tame the Hyacinth Macaw, you must place your feeder strategically.
The best location is on the ledge overlooking the ravine, just east of the Giant's Yard Outpost camp, above the Red Tree Forest. Once the Sotdae of Bond is planted, the real challenge begins: patience. Because the flight path is so erratic, you should move a short distance away to observe the area.
Managing the Flock
The Macaw travels in a flock consisting of one large blue bird and several yellowish Sun Conures. This is where your extra melons come in. The Sun Conures will frequently attempt to land on your feeder and steal your food. If you see a smaller bird landing, use Force Palm on the feeder to scare them off and protect your melon count.
Finalizing the Tame
The weather does not seem to impact the spawn rate; the Macaw has been known to appear during both clear skies and heavy rain. Once the bird has consumed enough fruit and reaches 100 Trust, approach the feeder and select the "Take in" prompt.
Once completed, the Hyacinth Macaw will officially become your pet, adding a legendary blue companion to your collection in Crimson Desert.
