Where to Find Lithium in Subnautica 2
Lithium is a critical resource in Subnautica 2, valued for being the softest and least dense metal available. It serves as a vital component for crafting advanced blueprints, most notably Plasteel Ingots when processed alongside Titanium. However, securing this mineral requires venturing into some of the game’s most hazardous environments, where survival is just as challenging as the mining itself.
As of the current game state, there are two primary methods for acquiring this resource: locating deposits within the Zezuran Desert or extracting them from the interior of the Great Jaw. Both options present significant risks that demand careful preparation.
Lithium Locations in the Zezuran Desert
The most accessible source of Lithium is found deep within the Zezuran Desert. These deposits are located in caverns and tunnels scattered throughout the biome. For players in Survival Mode, this area is extremely dangerous due to the high ambient temperatures and proximity to active thermal vents.
Before attempting to mine this region, you must complete several essential preparations:
- Progress the Story Campaign: Follow the main narrative arc, which will guide you to the Tadpole Pens located in the Zezuran Desert. This progression is often a prerequisite for accessing the deeper tunnels.
- Unlock Heat Tolerance: You must acquire the Heat Tolerance Adaptation. Without this upgrade, your health will rapidly deplete due to the extreme heat of the biome.
- Build the Tadpole Vehicle: The distance to the Lithium deposits is vast, and the path is fraught with hostile enemies. The Tadpole provides necessary mobility and protection.
- Carry a Sonic Resonator: Large chunks of mineral deposits cannot be mined with standard tools. A Sonic Resonator is required to break these formations and collect the Lithium.
Mining from the Great Jaw
While the desert offers a more structured approach, there is another viable farming spot that comes with higher risk. You can extract Lithium from inside the mouth of the Great Jaw, a gigantic clam creature with a voracious appetite.
This method is significantly more dangerous than desert mining. You must enter the creature directly, exposing yourself to its internal hazards and potential attacks. While it serves as a legitimate source for Lithium, each attempt carries a high risk of failure or death, making it a last-resort option compared to the prepared expedition into the Zezuran Desert.
