A Minecraft Movie Squared will take fans deeper into the blocky world of Minecraft, with new biomes, new characters, and new mobs set to make their debut in the sequel. The latest update on the film was revealed during the Minecraft Live event, where fans were treated to a mix of familiar faces, exciting teases, and a fresh build competition. Jack Black, who voiced Steve in the first film, shared his enthusiasm for the project, saying, “We’re so excited to be back in beautiful New Zealand shooting the sequel to A Minecraft Movie. There is a lot of new in this movie and a massive team hard at work taking this production to the next level.”
One of the most intriguing announcements came with the confirmation of Matt Berry joining the cast. Berry previously appeared in A Minecraft Movie as the villager Nitwit and as the love interest of Jennifer Coolidge’s character. However, this time around, his role seems more substantial. During the event, Berry was handed a jumper similar to the one Jack Black wore while playing Steve. While it's unclear if Berry will be reprising the role of Steve, speculation is mounting that he might be taking on the enigmatic and feared urban legend, Herobrine. The gesture has fans wondering if this is a sign of a deeper involvement in the story.
New Biomes, New Mobs, and More
Actress Danielle Brooke, who played Dawn in the first film, also teased what’s in store for fans. “We are taking you so much deeper into the Minecraft world. New biomes, new characters, and new mobs along with some of my favourites,” she said. Concept art was also shared, including adorable cubed polar bears, giving a glimpse into the creative direction of the sequel.
The most exciting reveal, however, was the build competition tied to the film. Jens Bergensten, chief creative officer at Mojang, announced the contest, which will allow fans to showcase their creativity and potentially have their work featured in the movie. “We are planning an epic build challenge with amazing prizes,” Bergensten said. “The winning build will actually appear in the movie or the end credits of the movie. We'll also set up private screenings for the finalists.”
Participants are encouraged to create something awesome in a custom map, with four specific biomes chosen to inspire the builds. The finalists will be selected, and the community will have the chance to vote for the winner. As an added incentive, there will be a cape up for grabs for the winner. This contest not only highlights the collaborative nature of the Minecraft community but also gives fans a direct way to influence the sequel’s content.
With A Minecraft Movie Squared set to expand the world of Minecraft in exciting new ways, fans are eagerly awaiting more details about the plot, characters, and the film’s release date. The inclusion of Matt Berry and the announcement of the build competition have only added to the anticipation, proving that the sequel is shaping up to be a blockbuster in every sense.
