While Microsoft may be hesitant to drop brand-new releases, reports suggest that more Call of Duty games are coming to Xbox Game Pass later this year. According to PC Gamer, Activision is currently exploring ways to bring several legacy entries from the massive FPS franchise to the subscription service.
The Current Call of Duty Lineup on Game Pass
Right now, the selection is relatively slim, with only six Call of Duty titles available to subscribers. The oldest title currently in the rotation is 2017's Call of Duty: WWII. Interestingly, 2020's Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is notably absent from the catalog.
However, there has been some recent movement in the library. It was only last week that the 2019 version of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare officially joined the service.
Which Legacy Titles Could Arrive?
With so many years of history to choose from, there is a massive pool of content available for Activision to rotate into the subscription. This expansion would mean more Call of Duty games coming to Xbox Game Pass for players to enjoy. Potential candidates include:
- Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (2007)
- Call of Duty: Black Ops
- The original Call of Duty (2003)
Microsoft's Subscription Strategy
Since Microsoft owns Activision Blizzard, many fans have questioned why so many titles are currently missing from the service. On one hand, removing new, day-one entries isn't entirely surprising, especially given speculation that doing so cost the company hundreds of millions of dollars.
On the flip side, the franchise has faced recent challenges. Notably, Black Ops 7 landed with a thud last year when stacked up against past games in the series. As the landscape shifts, fans are eagerly awaiting the next wave of Call of Duty games coming to Xbox Game Pass.
