The Pragmata community is sharing a moment of profound empathy following a heartfelt post that has moved players across the globe. A Reddit user recently shared how the character Diana reminds him deeply of his late daughter, sparking a wave of support within the Capcom fandom.
The post, shared by 55-year-old gamer TheRealDuke777, quickly rose to the top of the Pragmata subreddit's all-time list. It features side-by-side images comparing the game's character, Diana, to his daughter, McKenzie Erin.
A Heartbreaking Connection to Diana
The emotional post, titled "Missing My Little Girl," introduces readers to McKenzie, who passed away at just eight years old in 2009. TheRealDuke777 shared the tragic details of her medical journey, noting that McKenzie suffered from seizures and atrial tachycardia starting at 11 months old.
This condition eventually developed into Super Ventricular Tachycardia (SVT) after she turned eight. The tragedy unfolded when McKenzie passed out during outdoor play; she was rushed to a children's hospital but was tragically pronounced with no brain activity six days later.
"We never get over losing a child or someone THAT close to us," TheRealDuke777 shared. "We just learn to get through it... Some days take me back to that time."
Finding Solace Through Gaming with Ella
After a three-decade hiatus from gaming following his college years, TheRealDuke777 returned to the hobby in February 2024. This resurgence was driven by his 9-year-old daughter, Ella. Since then, he has explored several major titles, including:
- Fortnite
- Hogwarts Legacy
- Red Dead Redemption series
While these games helped him navigate difficult periods in life, the Pragmata community was drawn to this specific story because of how closely Diana resembles McKenzie. The connection was first noted by Ella, who suggested that Diana looked like pictures of her late aunt.
TheRealDuke777 noted that playing the game has become a way to bond with his daughter. "Diana is very much like both my daughters," he said. "PRAGMATA is therapeutic for my soul."
A Wave of Support from Fans and Developers
The response from the Pragmata community has been overwhelming, with hundreds of fans leaving condolences and sharing their own stories of loss. The emotional impact of the post even reached the developers.
Cho Yong-hee, the game's director, acknowledged the story and replied to the thread after it gained significant traction on X/Twitter.
Pragmata is scheduled to launch on April 17, 2026, for PC, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. GLI7CH gave the title an 8/10 in our recent review.
