While June usually marks the end of the school year for kids around the country, in the video game world, June is just the beginning. Summer Game Fest Live kicks off a busy reveal season for indie and AAA gaming alike, but sometimes what's shown on stage doesn't always make it to your home console or PC.

With SGF Live 2026 on the horizon, we're looking back at last year's show to evaluate how many of those games did make it to shelves, how many are still in development, and how many, if any, were left on the cutting room floor. SGF Live 2026, meanwhile, kicks off Friday, June 5 at 2 PM PT / 5 PM ET, and it will be livestreamed on Twitch, YouTube, and more.

The sequel to Cold Symmetry's souls-like debuted at last year's show, and while it still hasn't launched as of this writing, there were previews floating around as recently as April of this year. Consider this one still in development.

VERDICT: Jury's still out.

Fortnite Death Star Sabotage

The limited-time event Death Star Sabotage in Fortnite marked the end of the month-long Star Wars mini-season, and led right into Chapter 6 Season 3: Super.

VERDICT: It happened! Score one for SGF Live 2025.

Death Stranding 2: On The Beach

Hideo Kojima and a Geoff Keighley production: name a more iconic duo. Kojima entered next to present a new trailer for Death Stranding 2: On The Beach, leading up to its eventual release just a few weeks later on June 26, 2025.

VERDICT: Another point for Keighley, courtesy of his old buddy Hideo.

Chronicles: Medieval

Chronicles: Medieval is an open-world sandbox game featuring large-scale battles between medieval armies from Raw Power Games. The team promised early access opportunities in 2026, but that still hasn't come to pass. For now, we simply wait.

VERDICT: Jury's still out.

Sonic Racing CrossWorlds

Sonic Racing CrossWorlds hit the stage next, revealing guest racers Hatsune Mike, Ichiban Kasuga, and Joker, while also teasing a Minecraft collaboration. The release date was set for September 25.

VERDICT: The Sonic racer indeed launched in September with all of these new friends in tow. That's a point!

Code Vein II

Next up was Code Vein II, a return to Bandai Namco's anime souls-like. The SGF trailer mentioned a 2026 release date, but nothing more specific.

VERDICT: Code Vein II launched in January of this year, which means SGF Live 2025 is already up to four points.

End Of Abyss

The tone got a little creepy next with End of Abyss from Section 9 Interactive. Claustrophobic hallways and mean-looking monsters were highlights of the trailer, with the release window set for 2026--and we're still waiting.

VERDICT: Jury's still out.

Mouse: P.I. For Hire

Next up was a new look at noir boomer-shooter Mouse: P.I. For Hire, which revealed Troy Baker as the lead voice. The trailer ended with a 2025 release window, which the game did not hit.

VERDICT: While Mouse did launch in April 2026, SGF Live promised 2025, and that didn't happen. We can't give the point here.

Game Of Thrones: War For Westeros

One of the most surprising trailers of the show was for Game Of Thrones: War For Westeros. While no gameplay was shown, the cinematic trailer showed Jon Snow defeated by and joining sides with the Night King, which would have been one heck of a twist in the show. However, there have been no updates on the game since last year.

VERDICT: Jury's still out.

Atomic Heart II and The Cube

Mundfish came to the stage with a pair of projects: Atomic Heart II and The Cube. Atomic Heart II is a follow-up to the outlandish 2023 FPS, while The Cube is an open-world MMORPG shooter set in a new universe. Or, at least we think, because nothing new for The Cube nor Atomic Heart II has been shown since SGF 2025.

VERDICT: Jury's still out x2.

Marvel Cosmic Invasion

The show gets back on track with Marvel Cosmic Invasion, with the 2D beat-'em-up revealing Rocket Raccoon and She-Hulk as playable characters.

VERDICT: Both heroes were in the final roster, and the game launched in December. Back on the board!

Onimusha: Way Of The Sword

Capcom turned out to be the MVP of SGF Live 2025, with three big announcements sprinkled throughout the show. First was a new look at Onimusha: Way Of The Sword, which showed gameplay for the first time and set a 2026 release window.

VERDICT: Jury's still out, but the State of Play earlier this week set a September 25 release date, so things are trending in the right direction.

Felt That Boxing

One of the most bizarre (complimentary) trailers of the show came from Felt That Boxing, a Punch-Out-like where every character in the game looks like a Muppet. This trailer is the only thing we've seen from Felt That so far, so we're wondering what's going to happen.

VERDICT: Jury's still out.

Killer Inn

Social deduction meets Square Enix in Killer Inn, which debuted at SGF Live 2025. Players are groups into a hotel, most of whom are marked as Lambs, and a few selected as Wolves. The Lambs must seek out and kill the Wolves, or else risk being murdered themselves.

VERDICT: Killer Inn's closed beta kicked off later in the summer, as the trailer promised, and the game is available now, so that's a point.

Arc Raiders

Arc Raiders's latest trailer dropped new gameplay and an October 30 release date, which not only came true, but it marked one of the most successful launches of the year.

VERDICT: SGF extracts a point for this one.

Dune: Awakening

From one desolate world to another, as Dune: Awakening, the open-world survival set on Arrakis, came next. The segment brought sandworms and savagery from the sands, along with a June 10 release date.

VERDICT: Dune launched on June 10 as planned, and now is set to debut on consoles in September. SGF scores a point!

Chrono Odyssey

A trailer for co-op action game Chrono Odyssey rolled next, showing off gameplay and announcing a playtest for June 20-22. While the playtest did happen, the game still hasn't launched in full, and won't until the first quarter of 2027.

VERDICT: If we were giving half-points, this would absolutely qualify, but as the game is not yet available, the jury is still out.

Wuthering Waves

The smash-hit Wuthering Waves came next, as a new trailer for the anime MMO revealed the never major patch. Version 2.4, was set for June 12.

VERDICT: The patch indeed dropped on June 12, so a point is scored for SGF.

Mio: Memories In Orbit

The stylish metroidvania Mio: Memories In Orbit was next on the docket, with the trailer highlighting a new demo available "now" on consoles and PC.

VERDICT: The Mio demo was available on consoles and PC at SGF Live, and the game launched in full earlier this year, so we have another point!

Out Of Words

A beautiful trailer for Out of Words came next, highlighting the co-op platformer's impressive stop-motion technology. The video ended with a release window of 2026, though it was delayed into 2027.

VERDICT: That delay will cost this show another notch the score.

Mafia: The Old Country

The latest chapter in the Mafia saga from 2K came next, with The Old Country's trailer highlighting more of the story and its principal players. August 8 was also named as the game's release date, which did come to fruition.

VERDICT: Another point on the board for SGF. Molto bene!

Lego Voyagers

Next on the agenda was Lego Voyagers, a calm and cozy co-op platformer where two players join together as small, triangular Lego pieces, in order to traverse a sprawling world of obstacles. No specific release information was mentioned, but the game ended up launching on September 15.

VERDICT: SGF Live builds its score a little more with this Lego project.

Nicktoons & The Dice Of Destiny

Nicktoons & The Dice Of Destiny, a isometric adventure starring SpongeBob, Timmy Turner, and more of Nickelodeon's iconic characters, was introduced next by Carolyn Lawrence, the voice of Sandy Cheeks. The brief trailer teased a Fall 2025 release window, which did happen on September 30.

VERDICT: Another point for SGF, courtesy of SpongeBob and pals.

Lies Of P: Overture

An expansion to the fairy tale-inspired souls-like Lies of P made its debut next, with more monsters, more weapons, and a shocking shadow drop.

VERDICT: The expansion launched as soon as the trailer aired, there's no better way to score a point than that.

Fractured Blooms

"Doki Doki Literature Club meets Silent Hill" is how Fractured Blooms was presented next, with gameplay showing a lone girl farming, cooking, and walking through a house affected by some sort of malevolent energy. Sadly, despite a few updates since, this one's still not available yet.

VERDICT: Jury's still out.

Blade and Soul

A teaser for a pair of projects from NCSoft came next, Blade and Soul Neo and Blade and Soul Heroes. Neo was "available now," while Heroes was slated for a September release.

VERDICT: Both games are still going as of this writing, so this may be a two-pointer!

Mina The Hollower

A new trailer for Yacht Club's next major adventure, Mina The Hollower, aired next, which not only gave a new look at the retro-inspired gameplay, but also named Halloween 2025 as the official launch date.

VERDICT: Mina left fans feeling hollow on Halloween after being delayed into 2026, and while the game is now available, we can't give it the point here; it didn't launch on Halloween.

Deadpool VR

The debut of Deadpool VR from Twisted Pixel Games hit the stage next, which offered a look at the Merc with a Mouth in a whole new way. The trailer set a release window for Late 2025, which came true as the game launched on November 18.

VERDICT: One point for SGF!

Dying Light: The Beast

The next Dying Light adventure saw a new trailer of bloody zombie-killing action, as well as a concrete August 22 release date. Unfortunately, in the leadup to that launch date, Dying Light did get pushed back by a month, eventually launching on September 18.

VERDICT: We may feel beastly, but the game was delayed; no points for this one.

Mixtape

Mixtape, a coming-of-age tale from Beethoven and Dinosaur, rocked the stage next, highlighting some of the teenage trio's wacky adventures as well as the start-studded soundtrack. Unfortunately, the trailer mentioned "this year," and Mixtape launched in May 2026.

VERDICT: While Mixtape will factor into 2026 GOTY conversations, it wasn't part of the 2025 top performers as promised. No point.

Towa and the Guardians of the Sacred Tree

Bandai Namco's entry into the roguelike arena debuted on the SGF stage next, and with the first look at the world of Towa came a September 19 release date. The Guardians of the Sacred Tree did indeed arrive on 9/19, so consider that a promise kept.

VERDICT: Another point for Keighley and company.

Acts Of Blood

Acts of Blood is an upcoming third-person brawler from a small team in Indonesia. The debut trailer at SGF 2025 showed off some of the brutal action the game is going for, but we haven't seen much more from Acts of Blood since that debut.

VERDICT: Jury's still out, presumably in a fistfight.

Scott Pilgrim EX

Tribute Games, the team behind Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge, revealed Scott Pilgrim EX, a new 2D brawler set in the world of Bryan Lee O'Malley's Scott Pilgrim universe. The debut trailer showed multiple playable characters in impressive retro brawling action. The trailer promised a 2026 release window, which was hit on March 3.

VERDICT: Another point for SGF, bringing the total to 19.

Hitman: World Of Assassination

IO Interactive began its segment with mentions of MindsEye and 007: First Light, before airing a trailer for Hitman: World of Assassination's next Elusive Target: Le Chiffre, as played by Mads Mikkelsen.

VERDICT: Mads did indeed appear in Hitman, so SGF is up to 20.

Lego Party

Next up was Lego Party, a wild new party game starring Lego minifigs in Mario Party-style minigames and boards that players build out mid-match. The trailer ended with a 2025 release window, and the game indeed launched on September 30.

VERDICT: Blackjack! SGF is up to 21 points.

Wildgate

Wildgate, the PvPvE space shooter from Moonshot Games, hit the stage next. The trailer showed off Wildgate's multiple forms of combat, from space dogfighting to on-the-ground engagement. The segment ended with a firm release date of July 22, and Wildgate did launch that day.

VERDICT: Another point!

Blighted

Guacamelee studio Drinkbox's next game, Blighted, made its debut on the SGF 2025 stage. The isometric third-person action game was said to be "coming soon," but "soon" still hasn't happened.

VERDICT: Jury's still out, though we're now questioning the definition of "soon."

Ill

A new trailer for first-person shooter Ill (as in "sick," not the Roman numeral 3) aired next, with some of the bloodiest gameplay featured in the whole show. Mundfish and Team Clout didn't set a release date for this one, and the game still isn't out.

VERDICT: Jury's still out, and hopefully they don't look like the monsters in the trailer.

Mecha Break

The latest trailer to the online mech action game Mecha Break announced a release date of July 1, and when July 1 rolled around, Mecha Break launched on PC.

VERDICT: Easy point!

Infinitesimals

Everyone is small in Infinitesimals, a sci-fi third-person shooter from Cubit Studio. Gameplay showed fights against mechs and bugs alike before the trailer ended with a 2026 release window. As of this writing, Infinitesimals is still without a release date.

VERDICT: Jury's still out; watch your step.

Resident Evil

The next segment commemorated the 30th anniversary of the Resident Evil franchise, with a special message from Jun Takeuchi. He mentioned that news on the next Resident Evil game will be coming "in the blink of an eye," which proved to be very true.

VERDICT: Technically no announcement, but we think we can give a style point for this one.

Street Fighter 6

Staying with Capcom, the full slate of downloadable fighters for Street Fighter 6's third season were revealed to be Sagat, Crimson Viper, Alex, and Ingrid. The Year 3 Pass was introduced by pro wrestling star Kenny Omega, who dressed as each of the four characters.

VERDICT: All four characters are now in SF6, so this is a point.

Last Flag

Up next was Last Flag, a competitive multiplayer shooter from a team headed by Imagine Dragons singer Dan Reynolds. The game launched in April 2026, but one month later, the studio announced it would be ending post-release support.

VERDICT: Even with the support ending, the game did launch, so that is a technical point.

Wuchang: Fallen Feathers

A new souls-like from Chinese studio Leenzee, Wuchang's debut trailer showed off some of heroine Bai Wuchang's moves as she battled demons in a world suffering from a cataclysmic event called the Feathering. The trailer also set a release date for July 24.

VERDICT: The game indeed launched on July 24, so that's a point.

Wu-Tang: Rise of the Deceiver

Wu-Tang: Rise of the Deceiver, a co-op action RPG from new studio Brass Lion Entertainment, debuted on stage next. A brief snippet of gameplay was shown, but not much else was revealed--or has been revealed--since last year.

VERDICT: Jury's still out, and Wu-Tang is for the children.

Into The Unwell

Next up was Into The Unwell, a 3D platformer following a cartoon cat down on his luck. The striking visual style hearkens back to the rubber-hose animation style of the 1920s and 1930s, but we're still waiting for the game to launch in the 2020s.

VERDICT: Jury's still out.

Splitgate 2

Splitgate 2 showed a new trailer, though many people were less focused on that than they were on the CEO of 1047 Games Ian Proulx and his choice of headwear. The gameplay trailer showed off the game's mixture of portals and first person shooting, and the game launched right after it aired.

VERDICT: Splitgate 2 has seen a tumultuous life since this reveal, returning to beta one month afterward and re-launching as Splitgate: Arena Reloaded in December 2025. This one is a point.

Stranger Than Heaven

The penultimate announcement of SGF 2025 was Stranger Than Heaven, the next game from Like A Dragon studio Ryu Ga Gotoku. There's been some more news since, including a Xbox livestream solely dedicated to the game, but the game has yet to launch.

VERDICT: Jury's still out, watching Ado sing at the club.

Resident Evil: Requiem

The final announcement made good on Jun Takeuchi's promise from earlier, as the "blink of an eye" had passed and Resident Evil: Requiem debuted on stage. The trailer introduced a new heroine in Grace Ashcroft, and a release date of February 27, 2026.

VERDICT: Grace, and eventually Leon Kennedy, did set on their next adventure in February. The show ends on a point.

Final score: 28 points out of 49 announcements, 16 points still TBD

One year on from Summer Game Fest Live 2025, over half of what Geoff Keighley and Lucy James presented on stage eventually released as advertised, while 16 announcements are still up in the air. That leaves only five announcements as definite promises broken, which, out of nearly 50 announcements, is pretty good progress so far. We'll see where everything shakes out in the years to come.

For now, though, Summer Game Fest Live 2026 will introduce a whole new set of promises this weekend, and only time will tell if SGF 2026 will make the same mark.
