Hades 2 Patch Brings New Dialogue and Romance Updates
Despite Supergiant Games releasing Hades 2 from early access in September of last year, the developer hasn't rested on its laurels. Following fan feedback regarding what some felt was a subpar ending, the team issued an initial patch in October to address pressing complaints. Now, another update has dropped this week, adding new dialogue and polishing the experience further as noted in the Steam patch notes. This latest release introduces fated prophecies with narrated conclusion scenes to help round off the narrative journey for players.
Refining the Narrative and Romance Routes
The update significantly expands the game's storytelling elements, particularly within the Fated Prophecies. The list now features five new "narrated conclusion scenes," with a sixth scene receiving adjusted priorities for key events to improve flow. Additionally, the system includes better instructions for specific tasks, allowing players to complete story beats more intuitively.
Supergiant has also added substantial amounts of new dialogue to address lingering narrative gaps. These small but crucial touches ensure characters feel fully realized rather than unfinished:
- Nemesis now "lightens up a little," making her interactions feel less ominous.
- Hera no longer pretends she never met the player if you secured one of her boons before reaching Mt. Olympus.
- Poseidon becomes increasingly enthusiastic as the Sea Star activates more times, adding a layer of immersion to water-based mechanics.
The game's romance routes have received similar love, making relationships feel more organic and rewarding. Players will notice that Icarus is now less painstakingly reluctant when forging a bond, while scenes with Moros and Nemesis occur under less restrictive circumstances. Furthermore, you can now infinitely gift items to NPCs even after maxing out their bond tracks. This feature triggers various brief new scenes, ensuring characters don't go "glassy-eyed" once the dialogue tree is exhausted, keeping relationships dynamic until the very end.
Combat Buffs for Ares and Quality of Life Improvements
While narrative updates take center stage, the patch also delivers essential mechanical adjustments to balance gameplay. The most notable change is a suite of buffs targeting Ares, the god of war. For years, players felt his boons were the least appealing options available in battle; this update aims to fix that imbalance permanently. Several of Ares' boons now deal increased damage, making him a more viable choice for aggressive playstyles.
Specifically, the Profuse Bleeding and Sanguinary Savor mechanics have been completely reworked to integrate better with the god's kit. Beyond combat, the update includes quality-of-life touches such as new decorations for the crossroads and additional familiar upgrades. These additions enhance the visual atmosphere and strategic depth without overwhelming the core loop.
As someone who has sunk over 65 hours into Hades 2—a personal pick for our Game of the Year awards in 2025—I am very happy with these changes. The original ending felt a little too neatly tied-off for some fans, but Supergiant Games continuing to apply this fine layer of polish is great to see. With these improvements, Hades 2 stands even stronger as a definitive action roguelike experience.
