A Recent PEGI Leak Reveals a Surprise Tales of Remaster
Since the series' 30th anniversary celebrations last year, Bandai Namco has been on a roll with new releases. The publisher has been delivering a steady stream of updates to the franchise, but a recent leak suggests the next Tales of remaster is one fans might not have expected.
Bandai Namco has been consistently bringing older titles back to modern hardware. Recent releases include:
- Tales of Graces f
- Tales of Xillia
- Tales of Berseria
While the first two were highly anticipated because they were PlayStation 3 exclusives, Tales of Berseria felt somewhat unnecessary since the original version already looked great on PC and consoles. However, it appears Bandai Namco is shifting focus back to rescuing entries from truly antiquated platforms.
Tales of Eternia Remastered is Next in Line
According to a recent PEGI listing, Tales of Eternia Remastered is the next title in the queue. This unexpected Tales of remaster announcement suggests that classic era titles are far from forgotten.
Originally released in Japan in 2000, Tales of Eternia arrived in the United States under the name Tales of Destiny 2. It is important not to confuse this with the Japan-only Tales of Destiny 2, which is an entirely different game!
Bringing 2D Classics Back to Modern Platforms
Unlike many PlayStation exclusives of that era that were obsessed with 3D graphics, Eternia utilized a beautiful 2D pixel art JRPG style. The game was successful enough in Japan to warrant a PSP port, which was also released in Europe and Australia.
While there is no official word on a release date yet, the PEGI website currently only lists the Nintendo Switch as a platform. However, it is highly unlikely that this Tales of remaster will remain a console exclusive.
It is somewhat surprising to see this title prioritized over other potential contenders, such as Tales of Xillia 2, which has escaped "PS3 limbo" for now. Even so, seeing older platform exclusives made available again is always a welcome sight for the community.
