Ubisoft has officially stepped in to address recent rumors regarding the future of its multiplayer offerings. Following the circulation of a screenshot allegedly captured from Assassin's Creed Invictus, the publisher has moved quickly to debunk the legitimacy of the leaked image, labeling the content as "misinformation."

Ubisoft Denies Assassin's Creed Invictus Leak

The controversy began earlier this week when a user known as j0nathan shared what appeared to be gameplay footage from the upcoming project. However, the official Assassin's Creed X (formerly Twitter) account responded directly to the leak to clarify the situation.

Ubisoft noted that while the image may have originated from a private testing environment, it has since been significantly manipulated. The studio suggested that the screenshot was likely heavily altered, potentially using AI technology, to create a misleading representation of the game.

"Nice try... This might have started as an image from our private test, but it's been heavily altered (most probably with AI). Not great to spread misinformation," the official account stated.

What We Know About Codename Invictus

Despite the debunked leak, interest in Assassin's Creed Invictus remains high among fans of Ubisoft's multiplayer titles. While the studio is keeping details under wraps, we do know several key facts about the project:

  • Development Team: The project features veterans from For Honor working out of Ubisoft Montreal.
  • Core Focus: The game is centered around a PvP multiplayer experience.
  • Release Timeline: Ubisoft has stated they will reveal official information "when the time is right."

Previous leaks regarding the project suggested a much different direction, with j0nathan claiming nearly two years ago that Invictus would be inspired by Fall Guys and support up to 16 players. It remains to be seen if those early reports hold any weight compared to the current development focus.

A Turbulent Year for Ubisoft Multiplayer

The denial of the Invictus leak comes amidst a period of significant changes for Ubisoft's multiplayer pipeline. Earlier this year, reports surfaced that another multiplayer-focused project, known as Assassin's Creed League, was cancelled at Ubisoft Annecy.

That specific project was reportedly intended to begin as DLC for Assassin's Creed Shadows before being spun off into its own standalone title. With the cancellation of League and the ongoing mystery surrounding Invictus, fans are eagerly awaiting an official deep dive from the developers.
