While fans fear we may never see another Titanfall game, the franchise's core DNA is finding a new home in an unexpected place. An indie developer is currently working to revive the iconic human-mech combat within a vibrant, high-speed setting. However, players should hold off on clearing their storage space just yet, as this title isn''t slated for release until 2027.

ShatterRush: A New Hope for Mech Combat?

Developer Tetra Studios is currently crafting ShatterRush, a multiplayer parkour FPS that aims to capture the magic of its predecessors. The game is being described as a mix of The Finals and Battlefield, infused with the heavy-hitting action of the Titanfall series.

The gameplay experience focuses on high-energy movement and environmental interaction. Players can expect:

  • Poppy, vibrant colors that set a distinct visual tone.
  • Highly destructible environments that change the battlefield. 0* Advanced parkour mechanics for fluid movement.
  • The ability to summon giant mechs from the sky to engage in massive battles.

ShatterRush is scheduled to launch on Steam Early Access in Q3 2027. If you want to get an early look at the action, an open pre-alpha demo is available to download right now.

The Uncertain Future of the Titanfall Legacy

The Titanfall series has been largely dormant since its initial debut on Xbox in March 2014. Recent moves from Respawn Entertainment suggest that the franchise remains on ice. The studio has even gone as far as shelving an unannounced FPS in March 2025 and cancelling an extraction shooter set within the universe in April 2025.

The industry also faced a significant loss with the passing of Vince Zampella, the late founder of Respown Entertainment, who died in a December 2025 car crash. Before his passing, Zampella expressed a cautious approach to the franchise's future. In April 2023, he stated that if a Titanfall 3 were ever to happen, it would simply have to be the "right thing" to make sense for the series.
