I’ll hand it to Blizzard: there isn't a better band to write a Diablo track than Korn. It is official that Blizzard brought Korn out of its 4-year hiatus to write a song for Diablo 4: Lord of Hatred, and the result confirms that nu metal is—and always was—sick as hell.

I may have been slightly too young to call myself a legitimate fan back then, but I remember the nostalgia vividly. My dad regularly played Korn in his truck on the way to school, and I distinctly remember staring at the grinning skull on the Diablo 2 box whenever I had access to the family computer.

The Visuals of "Reward The Scars"

The new animated music video for the track just dropped, perfectly timed for anyone looking for something heavy to blast while playing the expansion. The visuals for this Korn Diablo 4 song feel like a deliberate throwback to a classic era.

The legendary demon lord Mephisto is depicted as if he stepped straight out of a '90s comic book, complete with twisted horns and large, hollow eyes. As he abandons his human form to tear opponents apart, the track erupts into a heavy breakdown that would have absolutely obsessed my 14-year-old self.

Why This Korn Diablo 4 Song Fits Sanctuary

The track, titled Reward The Scars, is tailor-made for the dark atmosphere of the franchise. It is the exact kind of music needed for brooding demons intent on a violent takeover.

The song features several elements that make it a perfect fit for the expansion:

  • A heavy, haunting, and angry atmosphere.
  • High-energy breakdowns perfect for gameplay.
  • A cinematic quality suitable for any AMV cut from the campaign.

If anyone was worried about the band's direction after their recent quiet period, Reward The Scars proves they haven't lost their edge. Singer Jonathan Davis is a well-known gamer, so it comes as no surprise that he agreed to collaborate with Blizzard on this project.

Even though the band has been busy writing a new album during their break, it’s hard to imagine the man who used to run his own World of Warcraft guild ignoring a call from Blizzard. My only complaint is that we won't see Davis's famous H.R. Giger microphone stand featured as an in-game staff—a massive missed opportunity, if you ask me.
