Marvel star Charlie Cox has finally sat down to play Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. The actor, widely known for his role as Daredevil, had previously expressed hesitation about discussing the title, once admitting he felt like a "total fraud" when fans praised his involvement in the game.
Charlie Cox Finally Experiences Clair Obscur: Expedition 33
In a recent update to GamesRadar+, Cox confirmed that he has finally spent some time with the title. While he hasn't finished the journey, he did admit to exploring the early stages of the game.
"I've since played a bit of it," Cox shared. "Not the whole thing, I haven't completed it. I've played the opening bit for a while and kind of walked around and met the people and garnered the information and all that kind of stuff."
He also poked fun at his own lack of gaming prowess: "I'm not very good, because obviously, it's a skill set, but I've played it."
A Unique Performance for Gustave
It is important to note that Cox’s contribution to Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 was primarily vocal. He provided the voice for the character Gustave, though he did not perform full motion capture. Instead, his recording sessions were relatively brief—lasting only about four hours—while the physical movements were captured by a different performer.
Cox has been incredibly humble regarding his performance, even suggesting that any accolades should be redirected to the person behind the movement. During The Game Awards 2025, where he was nominated for Best Performance, Cox made sure to credit his co-star:
- The Role: Gustave
- Voice Actor: Charlie Cox
- Motion Capture Artist: Maxence Cazorla
"I've said this before and I think it's important to say: there's an amazing French actor, by the name of Maxence Cazorla, who did almost all of the motion capture for that role," Cox stated. "Any nomination or credit I get, I really have to give to him—I believe that the performance of that character is really down to him."
A New Era for Charlie Cox in Gaming
Despite his initial reluctance, the experience of working on Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 seems to have changed his perspective on the medium. Speaking to the YouTube channel Agents of Fandom, Cox noted that this first foray into video games has "opened a new avenue" for his professional career.
In fact, his involvement in the project has already led to more opportunities. Cox revealed he is currently working on another video game project slated for release this year—one where he expects to be "much more involved" than his previous outing.
