Crimson Desert has reached such massive sales milestones that developer Pearl Abyss is reportedly rewarding its entire staff with a $3,400 (5 million Won) bonus. According to South Korean publication MTN, this special payout celebrates the game officially surpassing 5 million copies sold.
Massive Bonuses Following Crimson Desert Sales Milestone
Pearl Abyss CEO Heo Jin-young expressed his gratitude in an internal statement, praising the team's dedication. "I express my deep respect and gratitude for the hard work of each and every one of you who created a product that the world is enthusiastic about, and I am paying a celebratory bonus for achieving 5 million sales to all employees who have silently fulfilled their roles in their respective positions," Heo stated.
The scale of this reward is significant for the studio. With approximately 733 employees, the total payout for these bonuses reached roughly 3.7 billion won (approximately $2.5 million). This generosity may continue, as another bonus is reportedly due at the beginning of 2027 based on the company's 2026 financial performance.
A New Era for Korean Game Development
The success of Crimson Desert has even caught the attention of South Korean Prime Minister Kim Min-seok. He praised the title for using Pearl Abyss's proprietary in-house technology rather than a Western engine, as well as its integration of Korean culture, such as taekwondo and traditional cuisine. The Prime Minister noted that the game’s success serves as a "new chapter in K-content" and a turning point for the domestic industry to expand across various platforms, including consoles.
This achievement highlights a growing trend among South Korean developers moving from mobile and PC dominance into the console space with high-quality single-player adventures. Notable examples include:
- Stellar Blade by Shift Up
- Lies of P by Neowiz
While these titles have been highly successful, Crimson Desert has demonstrated even faster sales growth.
