I’ve watched every Resident Evil movie out there, and honestly? I kind of like them. While they aren't exactly prestige cinema or perfect game ambassadors, they are great for a laugh with friends. I had resigned myself to the idea that this franchise would only ever provide fun, cheesy ways to pass the time.

Why Zach Cregger is the Perfect Choice for a Resident Evil Movie

When I heard Zach Cregger was directing, my interest spiked immediately. As a fan of both Barbarian and Weapons, I love his unique ability to build tension and deliver unexpected scares. He feels like the ideal director to bring a serious tone to this Resident Evil movie.

I’ve been burnt by adaptations before, so I didn't want to get my hopes up too high. However, the debut trailer captures everything I want from a serious take on the series. The focus on a civilian getting swept up in the outbreak is incredibly reassuring.

In previous films, the action often felt way too cheesy to take seriously. This new direction promises something much more grounded and terrifying.

A Terrifying New Vision for the T-Virus

The best part of this trailer has to be the zombies, because they look absolutely horrifying. Whether it's the massive naked zombie in the sewers or limbs creeping out of dark hallways, the creature design is "chef's kiss."

In Resident Evil Requiem, the mutated strain of the T-virus presents a much more complex and tragic threat:

  • It causes extreme mutation, rage, and cannibalism.
  • The infected retain vague memories and certain habits.
  • Zombies are capable of completing tasks and even using weapons.

I am so happy to see these zombies acting as genuine, unnerving threats rather than just background filler. I think I'm officially getting hyped for this Resident Evil movie arriving in 2026.
