Dungeons & Dragons Actual Play Show Announced with Baldur's Gate 3 Cast

The world of fantasy tabletop gaming is set to expand as a new official Dungeons & Dragons actual play show, titled Dungeon Masters, has been officially announced. This exciting initiative features familiar voices from the massive success of Baldur's Gate 3. Neil Newbon, beloved by fans for his portrayal of Astarion, will join forces with Devora Wilde, who brought Lae'zel to life in the popular RPG. Together, they will guide viewers through a new chapter of tabletop storytelling without simply rehashing their previous roles.

Unveiling the Season of Horror

Dungeon Masters serves as the flagship program for Wizards of the Coast's innovative seasonal model, designed to keep the community engaged year-round. The inaugural season aligns directly with the brand's "Season of Horror," centering on the highly anticipated release Ravenloft: The Horrors Within. Joining Newbon and Wilde are industry talents including Jasmine Bhullar from DesiQuest, Mayanna Berrin from Dispatch, and Christian Navarro known for his role in 13 Reasons Why. This diverse cast will tackle upcoming D&D material, starting with the eerie landscapes of Ravenloft.

The experience extends beyond the screen through a strategic integration with D&D Beyond, where digital Play-Along Packs will launch alongside each weekly episode. These packs offer exclusive encounters for fans who pre-order Ravenloft, allowing them to dive into the story even before the core book arrives. While most content is reserved for pre-orders, a special free drop is available immediately this week. Players can experience thrilling encounters with:

  • The Zombie Clot
  • The Swarm of Zombie Limbs

This early access gives fans a taste of the horror elements to come, effectively building anticipation for the full release. If you simply want to hear more from Newbon and Wilde or daydream about a potential Baldur's Gate 4, the first episode is scheduled to debut online next Wednesday, April 22.

Looking Ahead: Magic and Champions

The excitement for D&D content shows no signs of slowing down as Wizards of the Coast outlines an ambitious release schedule for the rest of the year. Following the horror-themed season, D&D will pivot to its "Season of Magic" beginning in July. This segment promises to introduce Arcana Unleashed, a new sourcebook that is sure to excite spellcasters and lore enthusiasts alike.

Subsequently, the "Season of Champions" is set to launch in October, though Wizards of the Coast has yet to reveal the specific range of themed products associated with this upcoming season. Beyond the tabletop expansions, the broader Baldur's Gate universe continues to grow. Hasbro, the parent company of Dungeons & Dragons, has indicated that another game featuring Astarion and his companions is in development once a suitable studio partner is secured. Additionally, fans can expect a Baldur's Gate TV series to arrive on HBO, further cementing the franchise's dominance in pop culture.
