The road toward the next expansion is officially heating up. During the most recent Producer Letter, Naoki Yoshida pulled back the curtain on the massive wave of content arriving in FFXIV Patch 7.5, titled Trail to the Heavens. Scheduled to go live on April 28, this patch serves as the first half of a two-part story update designed to bridge the gap to the upcoming expansion.

Between new dungeons, high-stakes PvP, and the highly anticipated arrival of a limited job, there is no shortage of content for players to tackle. Here is everything you need to know from the Final Fantasy XIV Patch 7.5 breakdown.

MSQ Updates: Returning to Garlemald and the Moon

While Trail to the Heavens marks the conclusion of the Dawntrail patch cycle, the narrative appears to be looping back toward major threads from Endwalker. The upcoming Main Scenario Quest (MSQ) will take players into a new dungeon called The Clyteum. This instance returns the Scions to the snowy, industrial ruins of Garlemald, with the character Jullus expected to play a pivotal role.

Lore enthusiasts should prepare for significant world-building, as The Clyteum is designed to showcase the remnants of the empire before its total destruction. Beyond Garlemald, the story takes a cosmic turn:

  • New Antagonist: A new villain named Halmarut, wielding a stuffed toy containing Calyx's soul, will drag the Scions back to Mare Lamentorum.
  • New Trial Boss: The trial boss, Enuo, promises a fast-paced encounter. While it may feature fewer environmental gimmicks than previous fights like the Doom Train, players should expect intense moving AoE attacks and complex pathing mechanics.
  • Legacy Connections: The trailer heavily implies connections to Zero and Golbez, signaling a deep dive into established lore.

Echoes of Vana'diel and New PvP Mechanics

The 24-player Alliance Raid series continues with Windurst: The Third Walk. This installment in the Final Fantasy XI crossover is described by Yoshida as an "HD remastered" experience, pulling directly from the classic MMORPG. Players will face off against a massive version of Shantotto, the Tarutaru Black Mage, who utilizes familiar job abilities to manipulate the arena. This raid will conclude the story for guest characters Alxaal and Prishe and offers unique gear sets for all jobs.

For those looking to test their skills in Crystalline Conflict, a new payload-pushing map called Archeia Harmonias is arriving. Set within a library, this map introduces several unique on-map mechanics:

  • Healing Glyphs: Located at spawn points, these provide 50% damage reduction and health regeneration.
  • Aetherometers: These serve as mid-point checkpoints for the payload.
  • Jump Glyphs: Once an Aetherometer is fully charged by the advancing team, it creates a bridge and jump glyphs to facilitate movement.

The Arrival of the Beastmaster (BST) Limited Job

Perhaps the most significant addition in FFXIV Patch 7.5 is the introduction of the Beastmaster (BST). Following the model of Blue Mage, this is a "Special Job" that can only be used in specific instances and features its own unique progression system.

How Beastmaster Works

The Beastmaster functions as a Melee DPS with a level cap of 50. To access the job, players must have at least one normal job at level 50 or higher, have completed A Realm Reborn (2.0), and have Dawntrail registered to their account.

The gameplay revolves around the Master's Bestiary, a collection of 50 capturable beasts. Players interact with monsters using a specific three-step process:

  1. Gauge: Check if the creature is capturable.
  2. Weaken: Reduce the target's HP.
  3. Catch: Complete the capture after defeating the enemy.

Combat is managed through Battlehorns, which allow players to assign up to three beasts from their bestiary to a hotbar. While only one beast can be active at a time, players can swap between them mid-fight to adapt their tactics. To aid in progression, the job includes Crucible of the Unbroken, a new type of single-player content similar to traditional Job Quests.
